![[Samhain, Ghostbusters] Here's one I started a couple of months ago but put on hold when I started working on the car and firehouse. It's Samhain!
The recipe is simple, nothing special or new. I repainted that Harry Potter monster that everyone uses, but I added a high collar and sculpted around the neck region to blend it. The head is taken from that Samhain dolly that Mattel made, repainted and made to fit the body.
As for the paint scheme, I know he isn't purple. I always interpreted his cloak to be brown in the cartoon, and felt it looked purple due to lighting or animation effects. It eventually became purple, but I always preferred the brown.
With this one, I tried to give him a realistic look, as if he appeared in the films. The pumpkin was painted more realistically. The browns on the robe are intended to look like dead leaves, as if he were covered in dead organic material. I painted his hands and neck to appear to be made of twisting wood/root, which a pumpkin grows from.

I took two broken Ecto-1 cars(one had a broken hood, the other had a broken body frame) and combined them together. I cut the top out and used model filler to smooth it over a square piece of vinyl, which took HOURS to get right. Days actually.
The gadgets on the roof were from various scrap and parts from an Ecto-1 model kit. I also smoothed over the doors and a few other things. The flashing lights are from some Gi Joe knockoff police rescue set. The whole toy is repainted and it took several revisions before I was happy with the results.
I intend for it to scale with my Mattel figures. So, for those of you who are collectors of the Mattycollector Ghostbusters line, and you have bought up more than one Peter Venkman for the proton streams and the gloves, you probably (like me) have tried to figure out a few things to do with your extra Venkmans.
Well, I decided to make a casual Pete without his proton pack on. First off, removing the Proton Pack was no easy task. They REALLY attach them things! Once I was able to remove it (a little hot water and some gentle prying, and I still couldn't avoid breaking the thing off), I had some excess plastic on his back that had to be removed. I used a Dremel cutting tool and a sanding tool to remove the left over straps and get his back flat, and then I used epoxy to fill in the holes that remained. After sanding down the epoxy to make it flush with the original mold, I used a wet sanding sponge to buff the epoxy and plastic down smooth.
Finding a color mix to match his flight suit was a bit tricky, but I think](userimages/customs/45000/44878-1.jpg) Ghostbusters Flight Suit Peter Venkman (No Proton Ghostbustersby ruredi2rocHey friends!

![[Ghostbusters Containment Unit W/ Lights and Sounds] As cool as the Containment Unit was that Mattel made, it was definitely lacking in the details department. That’s where I came in. The entire thing has been repainted with realistic weathering effects, to bring some character to the piece. The bricks in the wall look dirty and stained, the Containment Unit itself has scratches on the edges, showing the metal underneath and looks a little dirty as well. I wanted it to look like something that gets used a lot, as opposed to looking completely pristine. You can see the difference in the before and after pics below.
I’ve also given the Containment Unit lights and sounds. I installed a circuit inside the body with two switches on the back, and one button. One switch controls the red light, one controls the green light. The button activates the sound. I got the isolated “shutdown” noise the Containment Unit makes when Walter Peck turns off the grid. The Ghostbusters are going to have a tough time with this fellow, it's Samhain their arch nemesis! Appearing in multiple episodes and the comics Samhain is the Ghost of Halloween and a very powerful spirit. Here he was created with a modernized look for the current 6" scale Ghostbusters figures. Samhain was made from a Harry Potter Dementor body/lower arms, Gandalf upper arms, Beowulf Grendel's mother lower arms, and a Marvel Select Hulk face melded with a vinyl rotocast pumpkin. He was then given a fully shaded paint job using Formula P3 and Testors Model master Acryl paints. The Dementor base was perfect for him and he can be posed on the ground as well. ![[Ghostbusters | Fire House Diorama Facade] Who you Gonna Call? Hobby Lobby… I wrote that…
Here I took a sheet of 1/2" foamboard removed the paper (both sides so it lays flat) and traced a pre-graphed scale drawing of the front of the Movie GhostBusters Firehouse. I went back over with a sharpened pencil and traced all of my graph work scoring the foamboard with the pencil. once the entire surface detail was established I started to built out with the ledges and cut out he windows. Then I primed the whole piece and used the window knockouts as patterns to cut out my window panes from 1/4" foamboard (adhesive on one side to later attach the plastic for windows)
Once primed I laied in my dirty brick red and saved enough for the door (cardstock) The window panes were spray painted black and then the plastic was applied… THEN i masked of the lower parts and sprayed the plastic to black out the top panes. I wanted to make Ray chubby like he was in the cartoon, but the figure was pretty skinny since it used the same body as the other 3 Ghostbusters. So I took a cotton ball and stuffed it down his jumpsuit, making him cartoon accurate.
The real surprise in this set are the proton streams. The figures didn't come with any, but what's a Ghostbuster without a proton stream? I made 4 unique proton streams, using aluminum foil for the energy burst, and action figure clear plastic twist ties for the "skeleton" of the proton streams. I then used hot glue to sculpt over the "skeleton" to give it that wild energetic look. I made an energy burst at the base of the stream to match the cartoon design for the proton stream. In fact I used several stills from the cartoon to capture the look. Down to the energy burst, the simplistic design, and the color scheme (in the cartoon it was yellow with some l](userimages/customs/33000/32784-1.jpg) Retro Action Real Ghostbusters with Custom Proton Ghostbustersby CrimsonVampyreRetro Action Real Ghostbusters With Custom Proton Streams - Created Sep 14, 2011

I've already done Janine in the Ghostbusters uniform, but this time around I made some great changes! In addition to making her more accurate to the comic book appearance, I've made some changes to her Proton Pack, giving her what I like to call Proton Pack 2.0! I know, original right?
This second Janine was actually made for Peter David, the famous comic book writer who wrote the issue of Ghostbusters, "What in Samhain Just Happened?" that my first Janine custom was based on. So of course I was happy to take on the job, and make her better! Everything about Janine is the same as before only this time I used a length of ball chain to make her necklace and painted it with clear blue making it accurate to her comic appearance.
The proton pack was altered this time around making it more durable and easier to take on and off. After the Vinz Clortho figure was released I saw potential in him. Specifically in his alternate head with crazy hair. Of course a lot of work would have to be done. So Louis Tully was made using 2 different Ghostbusters figures, with the head from Vinz and of course the Slimer that came packed in the GB2 4 pack.
First thing I did was replace the forearms with ones from a Peter Venkman so they would be gloved. Then I chopped off much of the boots to make him shorter, glued the peg back on and reattached the feet so it still retains all articulation and makes him the same height as the official Vinz Clortho figure.
I had to do a LOT of sculpting to his head. Probably the most intricate head sculpting I've ever done. I had to sand down all of his hair, even the parts that were touching his forehead. Then I completely sculpted his slicked over hairstyle as seen in the movie and resculpted his forehead, gi](userimages/customs/29000/28913-1.jpg) Louis Tully W/ Bus Driver Slimer - Ghostbusters 2 Ghostbustersby CrimsonVampyreLouis Tully with Bus Driver Slimer, Ghostbusters 2 Style - Created April 15, 2011

Since my first Janine Melnitz custom was such a hit I thought I would try out something different. I wanted to reflect Janine's appearance in Ghostbusters 2 during the babysitting scene. I liked her outfit in that and thought it would be perfect to capture. She's made using Marvel Girl.
I removed her skirt and replaced it with clear vinyl and sculpted over her stomach muscles to smooth them out and sculpted the bowties on her torso. I sculpted her hair and made it more accurate to the movie, even sculpting bangs and making it poofier and covering up her ears. She's completely painted head to toe. I made sure all the joints were properly prepped so paint rub isn't a worry at all.
The hands were repainted a fleshtone, the body painted green with black, and the hair painted black with red dry-brushing and washes to give it a realistic look. Janine Melnitz is the secretary for the Ghostbusters but every once and a while when the others need the extra help she's ready to throw on the suit and proton pack and bust some ghosts with the best of them!
Janine was made out of a Hasbro Marvel Legends Marvel Girl figure with the proton pack and belt from a Mattel Peter Venkman, the glasses from a Diamond Select Angel Wesley, and the hands from a Hasbro Marvel Legends two pack Elektra. All sculpting was done with Aves Apoxie Sculpt and all painting was done with Testors Model Masters, which were made for adhering to plastics so they're perfect for customizing.
The look for this custom was mainly inspired by the cover from this Ghostbusters comic that came out last year, "What in Samhain Just Happened?!". I also wanted a Janine in a Ghostbusters uniform to go along with the Mattel Movie Masters Ghostbusters figures.
