![[Captain Starshield from Ratchet and Clank] Captain Starshield from Ratchet:Deadlocked. Always thought he was awesome so I made him. This is the most in-depth and ambitious custom I've made. Darn near made him from scratch and took me a few months.
Took me months to complete. Made from a Ratchet and Clank Azimuth figure, AVES apoxie and Fixit Sculpt, clear vinyl, Super Sculpey and armature. I dremeled down Azimuth's body to the basic shape and sculpted up from there. His head is made entirely from Sculpey.
Might make him his own custom weapons down the road but for now, he has Ratchet's Combuster pistol.

Kal-El, raised by the name of Bruce Wayne, then endures the same events that the original Bruce did with the death of his parents. However, this Batman discovers he has super powers, can leap tall buildings in a single bound and is faster than a speeding bullet.
I made him from a Sinestro Corp Batman. His hands belonged to a Wal-mart 2 pack Batman and his boots were a ML Iron Man. His belt and face were sculpted and his emblem was a decoupage that went mostly right. I etched the seams on his sleeves and torso and the ribbing was bead jewelry string from the craft store.
Despite some problems, I'm pretty happy with this one.](userimages/customs/46000/45779-1.jpg) Speeding Bullets Batman DC Universeby RMK"Speeding Bullets" was a DC Comics Alternate universe story that saw baby Kal-El found and adopted by the Wayne Family instead of the Kents....10 comments |
![[DCUC Batman (Richard Grayson)] This was a really easy custom done on a whim as a way to wind down. The base figure was nearly perfect for what I wanted. It's not accurate to the way Grayson looked as Batman (but then there were a half dozen versions), so consider this is my version of him. I gave him longer gloves and three scallops like he has now as red Nightwing (why they gave him 2 I dunno. Are they like merit badges?)
I swapped his forearms with a Sinestro Corps Batman and gave him a new paintjob. A little sanding and buffing and a pair of repainted escrima sticks taken from a ML Moon Knight and he was done.](userimages/customs/46000/45522-1.jpg) DCUC Batman (Richard Grayson) D.C. Not only is it well drawn (and I wish I knew who the artist was), but it really captured that 1980s post-apocalyptic thing that was in back then. So I decided to make figures of that, at least in my own version.
For Jimmy Lee, the red clad, older brother, I wanted a more rock-and-roll, rebel feel to him to reflect a certain origin. The first Double Dragon game I played as a kid was the version made for the NES. In that game, the story was written so that Jimmy was the secret boss of the Warriors gang that Billy had been fighting all along. By the time of the second game, he had reformed and joined Billy to avenge the death of Marian, whom Jimmy rivaled for affection. So I made this version of Jimmy with an homage to a possible gang life.](userimages/customs/45000/44815-1.jpg) Jimmy Lee from Double Dragon Miscby RMKOne of my all time favorite pieces of video game art is the cover for Double Dragon 2 from the 80's. ![[Luminus] Made from DCU Superman with forearms and feet from DCU Dr. Midnite and a cape from another DCU figure (dunno the name). I thought this would be a simple custom, but finding the best way to do the cape was a headache, as his cape is supposed to flow from the chest piece contour. I settled with a workable cape and used Apoxie Sculpt to try to make the cape flow into his cowl. (But it broak later on, ugh). Also, I can't believe how many coats of white paint he needed.
A tip for those of you who need a lot of white for a custom: Start with Games Workshop white spraypaint, then use their white scar paint. I started out using Testors flat white but that just took forever and made the figure feel chalky. Any other spraypaint makes all soft plastic sticky!

I wanted to see him in a Bruce Timm style, and I had some JLU figures I couldn't manage to sell, so here we are.

This, aside from random scraps made way back in my youth, is what I would consider my earliest custom figure. It was made as part of an art project for a class I was in. The funny thing is, the most time consuming part was the custom box I made for him, which I no longer have.
It's pretty rough looking, but it's my first. I didn't know about pre-washing figures, and I did all the emblems by hand. I painted his mid-section orange and added the details on his boots (yes, Yamcha had these boots, albeit temporarily) Oh, and the belt came from a Toy Biz Ryu figure from their X-Men vs. Street Fighter line.](userimages/customs/37500/37131-1.jpg) My First Custom from 2000: Yamcha Dragonball Zby RMKThis brings back memories. ![[Emperor Joker Superman] This is an old figure I made around 2004. The paint application wasn't bad in and of itself, but back then I didn't know you should do a thorough pre-wash of your figure to remove all the factory resins and oils. As such, the paint app has worn away since the taking of this picture.
His cuffs were simply made from sculpy, another bad choice but it was all I knew to use back then.
FYI, this look for Superman comes from the Emperor Joker storyline, where Joker rules the universe and Superman was the world's greatest villain (a good guy in an insane world).](userimages/customs/37500/37130-1.jpg) Emperor Joker Superman Supermanby RMKThis is an old figure I made around 2004. Jonathan didn't have boots in his original design, but I thought he looked lame with basically a "gray onesie" footies. ![[Batman- Richard Grayson] Since DC Direct will likely not make this figure in the future, I made my own.
I used a Justice League Series 2 Batman, based off of Ed Benes' work. This figure had a leaner look which fit Grayson nicely. Also the paint scheme and bat symbol were already what I needed, so this really required minimal work.
I made my own version of his belt based off of numerous artists' versions. There have been so many in so short a time, I figured my own version couldn't hurt as long as he was recognizable as Grayson.
The buckle is based off of Trevor McCarthy's work in Gates of Gotham. The belt front is inspired by Tony Daniels and the pouches in the back are based off of Guillam March. The belt is made from clear vinyl.
I made the gauntlets long because the "bat cuffs" that are so often drawn look lame to me (also longer based off of Trevor McCarthy). They were crafted from shrink tube and the wings are clear vinyl.
