![[Raza (from IRONMAN Movie)] This figure has taken me four months to complete. *phew*
After much research, I think I got it right. I sculpted the head and made a silicone mold, same for the tongs.
I created photoshop patterns for the skirt, vest, scarf, 10 rings banner, jacket pockets and shoulder straps, and had them professionally printed on three different types of cloth. I got the pants, boots, white shirt, under shirt, wrist watch, belt and the gun from various 1/6 scale sources.
I got REALLY lucky in a few cases: The gun (a G36K 5.56mm rifle with a belly-mounted AG36 grenade launcher) is a perfect match to Raza's weapon in the movie, and the belt I found was also.
The jacket is heavily modified, but it started out pretty close to Raza's. It is very film-accurate now, along with all of the custom clothing items and the red & black 10 rings banner.
I even modified a standard oval Hot Toys stand, applying custom-made IRONMAN and RAZA decals, for a professional finished display.

I had this Lance Henriksen figure left over, so I tried my best to convert it to the character 'Bishop' from Aliens. I repainted the eyes, and sculpted entirely new hair for him. I got him a watch, some 1:6 scale metal dog-tags, a set of the correct boots, (from Hot Toys Ellen Ripley) and a jumpsuit. I had to alter the jumpsuit quite a bit, and fit it with a belt. In the movie, Bishop doesn't really hold objects like guns or anything, so I wanted a pair of hands that were not in a gripping pose. I happen to have a 'Barnabus Collins' 12" figure by Majestic Studios, from Dark Shadows. It had an extra pair of hands I wasn't using, and they fit Bishop perfectly. In fact, they even look like Lance Henriksen's hands. That's about it- I can't wait for the 1:6 scale 'Aliens Power Loader' from Hot Toys that is coming out later this year. I also did a complete repaint, so the skin and hair is the right color. The hair started out as a very dark brown, so I changed it to the more correct rusty orange mix. The other seams on the elbows and neck are very tight and hardly visible, so I'm happy with them; but the waist seam was really bad- it made the Cyclops look like it was cut in half. I might go ahead and close the seams at the hips at some future time, but I might not. I can live without the waist movement, but the hips? I don't know.](userimages/customs/2500/2479-1.jpg) Cyclops |
![[Death Star Droid] This has always been one of my favorite droids (perhaps THE favorite) especially in the silver version, seen aboard the jawa's sand crawler. When Hasbro released this, I was so disappointed that they took a huge short-cut by useing the same molds from C3PO for the arms and legs. The limbs of the Death Star droid (and silver jawa version) do NOT have the same details as C3PO. Its limbs are smooth, and the knee joints are very different too. I included comparisons of the two versions so you can see the changes I made. Also, the Death Star droid was released with metalic blue eyes, which I changed to the correct silver color. Sanding off the thick lines from the arms and legs, rebuilding the knee joints, and covering all the seams was a lot of hard work. I had to completely disassemble the droid many times, and when it was ready, I sealed the cracks and covered them- so now it can never be taken apart again. The Gorn Captain by Playmates had a tiny little head, and even if it had been bigger, the shape and detail was all wrong. So I sculpted a new one and made a mold; I cast it in green rubber. The only ways ToyBiz released Aragorn in this particular costume were (1) with rubber 'bendy' legs mounted on his horse Brego, and (2) as a stand-alone figure with solid plastic legs; the problem was, both versions had the silly 'mouth-gaping-open-in-rage' expression on their faces. I wanted to make Aragorn in the same costume he was wearing when he was confronted by the Mordor Troll Chieftain, but with a serious look on his face. I lobbed off his head (!) and replaced it with a head from a spare 'Coronation Aragorn', then I pulled off his hair, and replaced it with hair from a different Aragorn release- but I forget which one. It does have the little braids going down the back, so it wasn't a Strider (Strider has no braids) and it was not the Coronation version either... The height of the body is 1.75 inches, but the longest of the two antenni makes the overall height 7.2 inches. I have learned that Hasbro is releasing this one, (with a high-pressure jawa salesman included) but it looks like the antenna is pretty short on it. I had real trouble finding a dome shape that was exactly the right size. Eventually I took a glass cutter, and cut the top off of a light bulb- believe it or not. I coated the glass dome with transparent plastic that was dyed a dark gray color, and sanded it smooth. I put on the base and treads, made from resin. I cut off his legs and added a full three inches of hieght, useing solid sections of sculpey, then matched the detail so it blended seamlessly with the rest of the legs. I removed his beard (!) and built-up a new one, useing green tree foliage for toy train landscapes. I sculpted lots of flexible branches for his back, and one for the right side of his torso. ![[Mordor Troll Chieftain] This is the ToyBiz troll that should have been... I love the troll at the very end of Return Of The King so much, I just had to make one. First I prepared the body; I stripped off the Battle Troll armor, patched the hole in the chest where the original chest plate was. Next, I ground down the head a bit, so the helmet would fit. Then I made the loin cloth, sash, and completely new gums and teeth. Making the armor was the big challenge; I wanted it to be perfect, so I did lots of research; I looked at the film of course, but I also looked at the WETA statue. I found out that they are a little different from each other. The body armor in the movie looked almost like leather- king of flat, thin and brownish-gray. The body armor on the Weta statue looked like steel or iron, and was a bit thicker, and more detailed. So, I mixed the best features of both into one. It's a great movie with Peter Cushing, and this figure represents one of his Nazi experiments- a member of the elite 'Toten Corps' or 'Dead Corps'. In the film, Peter Cushing plays a Nazi scientist living in exile on a remote South sea island some thirty years after the end of WWII. He has brought his group of undead shock troops with him, to act as his personal guard. However, the 'Toten Corps' soldiers mysteriously refuse to obey his commands any longer, and they become autonamous. They lurk underwater, as they need not breath air. When an unsuspecting group of tourists arrives on the island, the Nazi scientist advises them to leave immediately- but of course, they ignore the warning. Soon they discover the horrors of the Toten Corps, who no longer require weapons to kill; they prefer to kill with their bare hands, and they do so with true Nazi efficiency...
