This guy was a real labour. For anyone that's been tracking my customs over the years, you might remember that I had originally planned for my Doppelganger figure to be this guy. It was a real trial to first of all nail down the look of this character. I hesitated for a while as to what version of the Sentry to make. He's had a couple of hairstyles and a few costume variations over the years, and in the end I went for his Dark Reign style.
I really liked the Bucky Cap figure and wanted to use it for this guy. I sanded off the mask from the Indigo Lantern Atom figure and sculpted the hair on. I don't really know why I went with the Atom head. I think I just wanted a heroic looking face that would be hard to pinpoint.
In the original Sentry series, Sentry's cape was pinned to his back with these cool 'S' shaped
clasps. I wanted to capture those, but didn't want them hidden round the back of the figure. I transplanted them onto his collar and I think they work really well to add a bit of interest to his costume.

Bob starts to remember and opens the door on a shocking secret about himself. As Bob's belief in himself changed, the reality around him changed as well. The suit that would eventually become the Sentry's superhero costume started out as we see it here, jeans, jacket, and... well some kind of towel pegged to his shoulders.

My idea of Venom is from his early days. I actually first heard of Venom when I played Spider-man on the Megadrive/Genesis. So really, all I knew was that he was this deadly, black Spidey with a mouth. He seemed so sleek and deadly, so I wanted to capture that. As I learned more about Venom, it was clear that he was physically imposing so I had to capture that too. And from there, it was all about the mouth. His wicked grin in his first appearance is iconic of course, but the first comic image I saw of Venom was from when he first got his slimy tongue and distended jaw.

His size fluctuated in his few comic appearances, but I was asked to make him more in line with his first appearance in X-men #50 where he was shown to be able to grip Cyclops in one hand. The hardest part here was definitely dealing with the tentacles. These things were a bit of a chore to make to be honest. The Marvel Legends Doc Ock comes with 3 pincers per tentacle, but Lady has 4. So I had to get a couple of Doc Ocks to get enough pincers. Also, Carolyn has a pointed end to her pincers rather than Otto's gripping style, so those needed replacing.
The Marvel Legends Doc Ock also had those more modern sucker-designs along his arms, so to keep with Carolyn's more classic look, I used the plainer tentacles from the Sinister Six Doc Ock.
Attaching these into the body was also a pain as I had to be careful not to drill through any of the internal joints that would've hindered her articulation.
