I've always liked alternate history machinery so I thought it would be cool to turn the "bucket" of the mini destroyer into a WWII era army helmet. From there I just cut the turret and some of the top off of a small tank and sunk it into the bucket. The hardest part was probably dremeling through the diecast hull of the tank. I took my time though and I think it came out clean. I also had to insert rods into the hull to attach the legs. They can move at the hips, knees, and ankles. Painting was easy enough; primed him, sprayed him green, drybrushed sand.
The worst part of making this guy was painting the spade on his helmet. Not because painting it was hard, but because in my attempt to open the bottle of white paint, I broke the bottle twisting the cap off and spilled it all over myself and my workspace...ruining my beloved Ramones T-shirt. Seriously...if you haven't seen WALL-E, stop reading this and go to the movies.
This one was really easy. I just took the gray parts that were supposed to be metal off of the figure, sprayed them black, then drybrushed on silver until I was happy with the overall texture of the "metal." From there I applied a VERY light drybrushing of a light sandy color to make him look dirtier. I went back with a black marker and filled in his eyes to even them out. I left his body alone because I didn't want to lose the solar charge indicator or the WALL-E emblem. I'm actually pretty happy with this relatively simple custom. Thanks for looking.](userimages/customs/8500/8401-1.jpg) WALL-E WALL-Eby midnight26manSaw this movie Friday night and had do a custom. Just cracked him open, dremeled out some room, and popped in an LED and a small battery. I soldered in a toggle switch so the light stays on or off. I guess you could go with a tactile switch if you intended on creating a play feature but the toggle is better for display. The figure is a combination of the two movie figures: I wanted the articulation in the wrists and the removable armor so I simply swapped the arms. Check it out.](userimages/customs/8000/7534-1.jpg) Iron Man Iron Manby midnight26manThis is my first experiment with LEDs in action figures and I think it went smoothly. I started by blacking out his suit and all his gear. I then added some belt pouches and the extra clips from one of those Elite Forces military figures. Once he was properly equipped, I began the drybrushing. I highlighted the black with various grays to add some depth and texture. I sparingly added bits of silver to the metallic surfaces as I wanted them to remain dull. Now he's ready to take care of business...ninja business.](userimages/customs/7500/7439-1.jpg) Snake Eyes G.I. Dredd's left shoulder (not the eagle) is from the 2000 A.D. figure that came out a while back, everything else is from the LCBH version. I wanted all the gold parts to really pop so I repainted them and gave them a very light wash. His baton is scratch made from super sculpey and painted black. All in all, it was a pretty simple custom and I'm happy with the results.](userimages/customs/7500/7143-1.jpg) Judge Dredd Judge Dreddby midnight26manJudge Dredd, Mega City One's toughest lawman.
