![[Changeling] So among the MANY ongoing figure collections I have going right now is my Titans collection, which will eventually consist of 11 of my favorite Titans members from various incarnations of the team. Now, I'm not all that fond of Mattel's Starfire (I could list about 3 good reasons for this, but just google it for yourselves) but in the end, the biggest crime in the line has to be their "Beast Boy." Like their first Sinestro figure, their Beast Boy looks ok... until he stands next to practically any other figure in the line. For some stupid reason, Mattel decided to make a modern/2008 version of Gar Logan, but put him on a body designed for 12 year old males.
So I've made/am making my own. I still want to spend a bit more time cleaning up (I've got the core of it done, just need to clean the edges) but I'm really happy with how he turned out... I used the YJ Superboy body, meaning he's still shorter than the other adult Titans, but not so much that he looks comical next to the](userimages/customs/50000/49885-1.jpg) Changeling DC Universeby TomatoisJPSo among the MANY ongoing figure collections I have going right now is my Titans collection, which will eventually consist of 11 of my favorite Titans...2 comments | ![[Toad V2] I guess it's kind of bizarre to see someone updating a figure so soon after posting it, but after reading the comments I decided to take another crack at the paint job on this one. Drybrushed the orange areas to give them more contrast, added some washes and drybrushing to the torso and boots to make the flares pop more, and added washes to his skin and hair to make him feel more organic.
So yeah, a big thank you to the guys and gals here on the realm for pushing me to put a bit more work in. ![[Toad] So this is a custom I guess I've been planning for years now, back when I was still collecting the Marvel Legends line. I just couldn't bring myself to buy the actual ML Toad (I don't see how anyone paid money for it) and after seeing the great work people on the realm had done with the ML Doc Ock, I knew I wanted something similar.
However, a few years ago I made the jump from the Legends line to the Universe one (mostly due to space issues) and Toad became much more problematic. There isn't really a "Fat" base in the Universe line... a few customizers have done decent jobs adapting the stockier body base for Toad, but they didn't ever work quite as well as the legends customs.
Well, after buying the SHS Dark-Beast variant for my custom Beast, I did a little bit of research into the line. I wasn't as impressed with the line as some collectors are (there are some good figures, but there are some bad ones too.) but then I came across the Doc Ock figure... which looks almost](userimages/customs/47500/47099-1.jpg) Toad Marvel Universeby TomatoisJPSo this is a custom I guess I've been planning for years now, back when I was still collecting the Marvel Legends line. Firstly, I used my new Dremel to cut down the neck and carve a new neck peg lower down on the figure (the neck on that body was too long, it didn't look right with the smaller Xavier head) and I painted the blue segments of the costume in a semi-translucent blue paint.
Admittedly, it's not my best paint job, but this was more an excuse to try out the Dremel then a serious custom. Still, it turned out ok, and I'll probably swap it with the suited Xavier every so often.

![[Phoenix] Not really too much to say here... I've long since wanted a Jean Grey for my collection that complimented the rest of my X-men toys, but it seems like Hasbro has been bound and determined to make Jeans I don't want (I like this look more, but I'd have accepted the Marvel Girl outfit as well). Which absolutely kills me, because doing normal Phoenix would be a straight repaint of two-pack Phoenix.
So yeah, finally got tired of waiting and repainted dark Phoenix. Green for the body, black for the neck, gloss sealant.
Now if Hasbro would release regular Angel, I'd be all set.](userimages/customs/46500/46335-1.jpg) Phoenix Marvel Universeby TomatoisJPNot really too much to say here... Originally I was thinking of actually sculpting a new head (using the Movie hulk head that looks so amazing for the Non-furry Beast customs here) because the original head looked a bit pin-headed online, but when I got the figure in hand it wasn't as bad. I'm definitely glad I decided to grab the Gray variant also, I much prefer his mouth closed to being open.
Anyway, full repaint from head to toe, used a couple of shades of blue to bring out the fur a bit, but it doesn't really come out in the photos. ![[Green Lantern: 3.75" Movie Figure] So this custom was kind of born out of necessity... For a long time now I've had a toy shelf dedicated to the movie versions of various heroes produced in the 6" scale; aka the Marvel Legends and Movie Masters line. But between a desire to conserve shelf space and Hasbro's rather lackluster offering (no Mark VII Iron Man or Black Widow? Seriously?) I finally broke down and switched over to the Marvel Universe / 3.75" scale for my display.
Thing is though... the Mattel small movie lines kinda stink. I can ALMOST live with the articulation because I have most of them just standing there anyway, and the Batman figure at least looks decent (it's kinda hard to screw up all-black paint) but Green Lantern's paint job just looked cartoonish, especially next to the Movie Avengers figures.
So I spruced him up with a new paint job, using the metalic colors tutorial here on the site. I'd actually attempted something similar with a Movie Masters Sinestro before (wanted a yellow version)](userimages/customs/46500/46276-1.jpg) Green Lantern: 3.75" Movie Figure Green Lanternby TomatoisJPSo this custom was kind of born out of necessity... As it was, the mega bloks minifigures were probably the most miniscule version of Halo characters available at the time, and trying to find something small enough to be Junior (that I didn't have to sculpt myself, mind you) wasn't something I held high hopes for. I considered doing an "adult" version, but in the end I more or less just decided to shelve Junior, along with several other RvB characters, until I could manage to do them justice.
However, about a week or two ago I decided to check the Mega Bloks blog, just to catch up on what I'd missed. Not only was Mega Bloks starting up the "ARMORY Initiative," a way to sell multiple armor permutations instead of just making an "EOD Spartan" or a "CQB Spartan," they were also promoting something called "Halo Universe," which featured miniature versions of](userimages/customs/38500/38318-1.jpg) Mega Bloks: Junior (Rvb) Haloby TomatoisJPSo of all the characters in Red vs. Blue, the one that's had me stumped for the longest time is Junior, the baby alien from Season 5. ![[Mega Bloks: Project Freelancer S6-9 (Rvb)] These here are some of my favorites: South Dakota, Washington, Maine/Meta, and C.T.
South and Washington are both fairly standard fare: Repainted versions of regular old Spartan 2 (South is a complete repaint, Wash is a "Steel" Spartan that was a bit of a pain to get)
Maine, however, is a bit of a mismatch. My current "standard" version of him features the EVA helmet and chest-plate, EOD right shoulder, and CQB left shoulder. This doesn't really match any of the current seasons, but since there's not yet a Scout chestplate I can't yet do his S6 look. I do, however, have an EVA Right shoulder to complete his look from Season 8 (seen in the third pic).
C.T. is probably my favorite of the lot. Again, she's not really accurate to the show, as her armor pieces are from Season 9, but the Helmet is not all-brown, as it is there. This is more a personal thing... with Season 9, they opted to include Halo 3 armor pieces, but to keep the secondary color as it appears in Hal](userimages/customs/38500/38273-1.jpg) Mega Bloks: Project Freelancer S6-9 (Rvb) Haloby TomatoisJPThese here are some of my favorites: South Dakota, Washington, Maine/Meta, and C.T.

![[Mega Bloks: Blue Team (Rvb)] So as you might have guessed, the natural followup to the Red team is in fact Blue team.
Now, most of these are pretty much factory standard... all but Church, actually. I did make minor modifications to each figure's shoulder and to Caboose's helmet (I'm still crossing my fingers for an actual Mark V helmet, at which point I'll upload him again separately). However, for now, this is my version of Blue Team
Like Donut, my current Church is another repaint. I was never happy with the original paint job (I attempted a black wash and it just looked murky) so after successfully redoing Donut, I went ahead and did up a new Church as well.

I do have a few more minifigs this time around, looking forward to showing them all off.
Just about the only set I uploaded last time was Red team, so it seems only fitting that I start with them this time as well. The team is mostly the same as before, but I've since replaced my Donut mini-fig with a new one. Those minifigs were some of the first characters I did for the line, and I didn't really have all that good a handle on painting them yet... With Donut, I actually managed to clog the joints with so much paint that many were unworkable (the head peg actually broke off at one point). Finally I just redid the whole thing.
On the whole though, I'm quite proud of how he turned out. ![[Young Justice: Kyle Rayner] A fairly simple custom, but one I wanted to complete my Young Justice team. With most of the Big 7 already represented in the team (I know a Wonder Girl isn't in there, but that was a temporary rights issue and I suspect we'll see her in "Invasion" if nothing else) I wanted to include a Lantern as well. I felt like Kyle made a better choice than trying to make up a character from thin air (I usually think of Kyle as being in the same generation as the Legacy characters anyway) and decided to make him a Blue Lantern given the limitations of that aspect of the spectrum.
To that end, I took a Wal-Mart Kid Flash, sliced off his hair and ears, and then sculpted several aspects of Kyle's costume* with Fixit Sculpt. The logo was my first experiment with using a decal, and it came out ok all things considered.
Anyway, thanks for looking!

However, I've never been happy with the notion that you should have a 12" giant figure in a 3.75" inch line... it's just too big for characters like Giant man. I decided instead to modify a DCUC figure (Marvel Legends was still more or less defunct at the time, and DCUC was the most in-scale with what I wanted). I bounced back and forth on whether to shell out and get a BAF for him, but finally I just went down to Toys R Us and picked up the figure I thought looked closest out of what I had available.
Finding a base for Wasp was a bit harder. I didn't really like any of the Wasp figures that have come out for the line: This is a character with more costumes than perhaps any other comic character EVER, and Hasbro couldn't use one of them that looked decent? ![[Robin] So, I have what I call the "Epic Batman collection" of figures growing on my shelves, made up of 4 different Batman sets: Arkham, DCUC, Movie Masters, and Lego (Just 'cuz). It became apparent to me more recently that, as much as I love Tim Drake, Richard Grayson was a much more fitting choice for my collection (especially since Arkham and Lego both feature Tim-Robin anyway). But I refused, point blank, to showcase underwear-and-pixie-boots Robin.
Instead, I decided on a sort of compromise. I based this outfit loosely on the costume Richard wore in the Batman Animated series, though I left several of the original elements (Belt, Collar, Red Tunic) mostly because I was too lazy to change them, but I don't think they look out of place either.
My Robin figure is mostly just the Classic Robin from DCUC wave 16 (which I needed to buy for Bane anyway) with lower legs "donated" from a Young Justice Red Arrow figure. But after picking up one of the Legacy Mr. Freeze figures for cheap (the box was beaten up, but the figure was fine) I reconsidered that standing... Whoever allowed that figure to go out on the market with that bizarre paint app needs to be taken out and beaten.
