Released in 1996 by Toy Biz the Spider-Man: Vampire Wars figures loosely followed the Animated series and rendered the characters of Blade and a recently mutated Morbius as they appeared in the cartoon at the time. Other figures were a flight of fantasy beyond the animated series and seemingly dreamed up by Toy Biz. Fast forwarding 14 years, for this competition I decided to take the three main figures from that series and give them a modern, Marvel Legends style with all the articulation and paint treatment of much more modern figures.

![[Ace Duck] If you were a kid from the 80's then you have to have been affected by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Even if you didn't like any of the 4 distinctive green brothers, then there was at least one obscure sidekick you could associate yourself with. For me it was Ace Duck. If memory serves me correctly he only appeared in one episode and it was extremely brief. However, the figure (the one and only) came out with the first run of figures. When I received this guy, I was blown away. Now that I am older I still hold a place in my heart for Ace. However, I am older. This is my reasoning for giving Ace a bit more current look, while still retaining some of the old plastic charm. I chose to use major parts from the original figure and mix them with current, more articulated figures. Every duck will have his day and today, it belongs to Ace.

![[Buttons Mcboom Boom - C.O.P.S. REBORN] When I remember my childhood toys I fondly remember Buttons McBoom boom from the C.O.P.S. cartoon & comics. While his name was pretty stupid, his look was awesome to my young eyes; he was a futurist 1920’s gangster that had guns locked away in his chest and an instrument case with Tommy gun. Even though his chest panel didn’t last a week without breaking and I lost his small hat soon after, I still own my original 20+ years later. Now the contest for the month is Past Toys Reborn and up for your consideration is Big Boss’ enforcer himself with a totally new look Buttons McBoom boom. Anyway, to make this figure I used the movie Wolverine from the Wal-Mart two pack, cut off the neck and resculpted it with green stuff. The head is from a two-pack Nick Fury, shaved down to fit in the Judge Dredd helmet (which needed a lot of work since I tore it up getting it off Dredd's head) and I sculpted the mustache with green stuff. The arm came from a movie Green Goblin, I cut off the arm at the shoulder and glued on the mechanical arm and filled in the gap with green stuff. The belt is made from Longshot's bandoleer, and the armor is from a Spiral Zone figure, cut down to look appropriate. ![[MASK Raven with Calhoun Burns] The Raven is one of my all time favorite MASK vehicles so I just had to take a stab at breathing some new life into it.
I came across a die cast Corvette concept car that I thought would be appropriate seeing as how the original Raven was an 84 Corvette.
I have never customized a die cast car so it became quite the learning experience
I wanted the car to be able to transform as much as possible so I used the joints from some spare Transformers (sorry Cyclonus) I had lying around to make the flip up wheels.
For the reverse gull wing doors I ground out the frame and then epoxied piano hinge to the doors and frame.
The front end slides forward and rotates again thanks to the sacrifice of some brave transformers.
Calhoun was made mainly from a Rise of Cobra StormShadow.
I wanted his face to be unique so I re sculpted the head from the RoC Rex/doctor figure.
The sculpted the chest piece and a bit of the mask using aves fixit.

Weed Killer was just an ordinary groundskeeper until the mad scientist strapped him onto his operating table and twisted his body into something far less, and far more, than mere man.
In humanoid form Weed Killer employs a spray gun that douses his foes with a poison cocktail custom-designed by Dr. Arcane himself (the exact recipe is unknown, but it contains dozens of herbicides, soil sterilants, and defoliants--just a small sampling of the ingredients, many of which are restricted and/or illegal, would give the most jaded EPA inspector fits). The wand nozzle can be manually adjusted to release a concentrated, high-powered stream of fluid, clouds of fine mist, or anything in between. He also plays theme songs from TV shows. My wife and I were talking when the theme song for Fal Albert came on. I may have, inadventantly, cut off whatever my wife was saying and said, "Fat Albert, I could make a Fat Albert out of Blob." (Fortunately I have a very understanding wife, actually knew what I was referring to.)
Well the base figure is as I mentioned Blob (needed too much Scuplty to use Pyro.) I actually made 2 of them, one for me and one for our friend. Basically I used Super Scuptly to make the hair, collar, sleeves, more belly, smooth out the legs to make them more like pants, and the pants cuffs. The bits of belt that you can see are from a toothpaste tube. The hair I made small "pokes" with an Exacto Knife to give it that afro look. Smoothed out and dried the Scuplty and then painted with Testors Model Master paints.

![[Terror Tank] Terror Tank, and his comrades, were created by a freak accident in which they, in their natural plant shapes, were bathed in black light radiation from a nearby sun. The ray bombardment rapidly mutated the flora, granting them sentience and the ability to consciously alter the structure of their cells, and thus their bodies, at will. Assuming the forms of various assault vehicles and christening themselves 'Monster Minds', the quartet (Sawboss, K.O. Kruiser, Gun Grinner, and Terror Tank) set out to eradicate all non-plant life forms in the universe. Once this goal is obtained, they intend to rule over all lesser vegetation in the resulting 'green' utopia.
In tank form, this Monster Mind uses his snake-like, plant appendage (the jaws of which are strong enough to bite through steel plate) and his mortar-firing turrent cannon as his primary offensive weapons. Additional equipment and/or ordinance can also be mounted on his chassis as needed. The Triceratons are aliens that like war and they also like to fight. The Triceratons are ruled by an empire that wants to control the entire universe. I tried to make a more realistic looking triceraton warrior, so that it would fit better with the first appearance turtles produced by Neca, and at the same time look less like a cartoon.I mixed in some of the gladiator like style that the Triceratons had in the 2003 series.

These may look familiar (a couple anyways) but they have been changed, to improve their over-all appearance. Also, I know the contest requested pictures of the original figures, but like I said I wasn't planning on entering this, but technically these characters are all re-made from an older toy line...regardless, I still had the bodies of the original figures...they've just been decapitated...but you can get the idea. They were from the Toon Turtle Ninja Turtles line.

AP for those of you who are too young to remember, was a line of 3 3/4 scale figures from the early 70's. They were mostly people like Safari team member and so on, untill 77 when they developed more of a space theme for some reason. Astro Knight was originally released as Hang Glider Daredevil, with a foam glider, and a yellow and black paint scheme. The later version had a blue and silver color, and the card art showed him in orbit around an Earth type planet. The line is also seems to be one of the first in this scale.
I made this version out of a Blob series Wolverine, with a Superman head. The helmet was made from sculpy, and the armor/life support was Sculpy and foam strips. Followed up with a full repaint, and here you go. ![[Gripper] Before Gripper joined the French Foreign Legion, he was a mercenary fighter who couldn't get a job! No army would have him because of his infamous reputation as a totally ruthless fighter. The tough Foreign Legion sent Gripper to a dangerous desert outpost. But after two months they kicked him out because he would not acknowledge an enemy's white surrender flag.
Gripper's vise grip holds his weapons very tightly, so he prefers it over his real hand. His weapons are specially adaptedto fit into his iron fist. When he meets new S.A.V.A.G.E. Army members he loves to shake their hands - they get the surprise of their lives!
Gripper has threatened that the next time he meets Rambo he's going to carve his intitials into Rambo's chest!
Gripper was made using a camo Punisher body, Ultimate Nick Fury head, interchangeable Cylon hands for his prosthetics, sculpted beret and collar, and battle harness from an old Spiral Zone (Spiral Zone was totally awesome, btw) figure. The other half is a WWE figure that was missing a leg from my fodder bin. A lot of "Cut and Paste" was involved. A paint job to get as close to the original figure as possible. I also discovered a new technique for dry brushing and adding some highlights. His sword is made completely from scratch to match the original as well.
I chose to make Blade, well he was the coolest character from the He-Man movie back in the day. My version is an older version a little more battle worn and weary, he has lost a leg in some galactic fight, or maybe he ticked off Skeletor one to many times, but he has always been on of my favorite characters and one of the baddest mercenaries ever. I decided to make him because when you ask someone today if they remember Blade, they look at you with that confused gleam in there eyes and wonder why you like vampires so much.
