![[Stratos (MOTU Hybrid)] Whew! Has it really been a MONTH since I posted one of these? Bet my fans thought I abandoned them! Not to worry, I've still been customizing, and I want to thank everyone who voted for my entries in the Vehicular Toyslaughter Custom Contest. If you didn't see them, check out the Turtle Van, Redbird, and Professor Xavier's Hoverchair. I'll be entering two currently running contests as well, so keep an eye out! Meanwhile, I'm back with another in my (semi) popular line of MOTU Hybrids. Today's piece is apparently a fan favorite (shout out to kngfu! Good guy), and while I've always seen him as a third-stringer, after working on him, I can say I appreciate the character and design a lot more than I once did. The king of the skies, the lord of Avion, say hello to Stratos!
MOTU Hybrid is my attempt to unify the best of all three MOTU eras. The ideas (i.e. color schemes and concepts) of the original cartoon, the sculpts of the 2002 toys, and the articulation of modern figures, at a](userimages/customs/37000/36773-1.jpg) Stratos (MOTU Hybrid) | ![[Stratos Fett] Stratos figure and an old Boba Fett bank found at a flea market](userimages/customs/36500/36240-1.jpg) Stratos Fett |
![[Stratos (Vintage Mini Comic Style)] While making some research on the vintage mini comic styles I found a rich variety of re-decos and sculpts!
The one that caught my eye was Stratos, he had one of the most radical changes of looks so I translated that into the Motuc line, but with some upgrades: Modded neck so he can look up when flying, rotating wings, retooled left hand so he can actually hold accessories, and since he did not came with any weapons, I gave him the fabled "Staff of Avion" seen in the episode "Reign of the monster" of the classic series. It was airbrushed in gold paint for a smoother look. The figure then was repackaged with the classic HKC badge!](userimages/customs/31000/30542-1.jpg) Stratos (Vintage Mini Comic Style) | ![[Stratos] Next up in my continuing quest to do all the major MOTU players it Sean Coner......wait, I mean Stratos. This one came together pretty quick over the last week, I didn't even stop to take WIP shots for this one. The Paint job took the longest here, lot's of detail to pick out and far too many S logos, I mean surely you don't need your initials on every piece of technology, or maybe that's jus the way it works in Avion?
Anyhoo, here's the recipe
Base = DCUC Dr. Impossible, any would do but this seemed best as it's mostly black.
Head = 200x Stratos Dremmel to fit DCUC neck and peg.
Lower arms and wings = 200x Stratos grafted onto Dr. Imp upper arms and sculpted fur.
Harness, belt, loin cloth = 200x Stratos.
Backpack = 200x Stratos, dremmel to back of harness to fit, still fires but I might jus glue that up??
Lower legs = 200x Stratos.
Feet = 200x Stratos grafted onto Dr. Imp. Sculpted fur around bottom of thrusters and on top of feet.

Crisco and I talked about it more than a year ago.. I had started one and ended up scrapping it. Wanted something different, was really leaning towards a Prince Vultan/Hawkman design from the Flash Gordon comic so I gravitated to the DC Universe Hawkman.
The Head is a DC Direct Else Worlds Green Lantern.. He had those really cool goggles and that leather cap, perfect for what I wanted to do.
I tried to keep the original character's color scheme but updating it with a metallic/ Silverhawk shine.
I used the straps and loin clothe from the 2002 Stratos figure. I inverted the colors on the loin clothe so that the feathers matched the wings.
Thought a bird-man needed some talons so, Raven Spawn donated those. The wings are from a Zoids figure I got many years ago and that had broken during one of my moves. I removed the wings from the HOM Wolverine's flight pack and attached the folding wings from the Zoids toy](userimages/customs/19500/19145-1.jpg) Stratos |

I really like how the colors in his body came out. Big thanks to bigassbuzz for the reasonble MOTU prices.
