Admiral Riker denied a request from his former captain, Jean-Luc Picard, to study a seemingly nonexistent space anomaly in the highly volatile area of the Klingon Empire. Admiral Riker felt the mission was far too risky. Believing the matter closed, Admiral Riker returned to his duties. Upon reflection, however, Admiral Riker remembered that his old friend would not have taken 'no' so easily. Realizing the imminent danger, Admiral Riker quickly took command of the Enterprise and headed for the border area. The Enterprise arrived just in time to save Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Pasteur, a medical ship under the command of Captain Beverly Picard. Disregarding the evidence of Jean-Luc's poor mental health, Riker put his trust and loyalty back in the hands of his old Captain and set a course for the space anomaly. With only his former captain to guide him, Admiral Riker sent the Enterprise into the space anomaly -- and the unknown.
