New collector some questions to help me please

Posted in Action Figure Chatter

Ok so I just bought my first collectible action figures the new hot toys Chewie and Han Solo or preordered rather. I love starwars it's mandatory watching in our house lol. Now the more I'm looking at some of these figures I see a few more I'd like to buy but I'm not sure of all the variations in each character. For instance the movie masterpiece versions, dx versions, die cast versions, then I'm only assuming there's just the normal 1/6 scale. If any one would car to enlighten me I'd be very appreciative I had like 4 hot toys in my cart but then I wasn't sure what version I was getting and I'd prefer to gain a little knowledge on the subject before I drop a 1000$ I searched Google and kept looking around for answers for some of the questions I have but to no avail so I figured find a forum with others that like what I do and hope for the best.

Second part the only reason I went with hottoys over all the others is there fharacters look so real and true to form. I'm open to other manufacturers but I'm not as well versed on who makes good quality figures. I know sideshow collectibles has some nice stuff but them and hot toys are about the only places I've found and well ebay. So I guess my question is what are good quality makers of well made action figures that pay attention to detail. I'm into marvel, starwars, and dc little bit of movie stuff as well. Also where a good place to buy. Seems like ebay has a ton of figures as does sideshow collectibles but if there's some places I don't know about id love to here about them. I'm from wisconsin and my local comic stores don't carry really anything for action figures unfortunately.

I'd love to learn from you guys and be able to share the things I get appreciate any help you guys could give me to make good wise decisions on my purchases. Money isn't really the object I guess depending on the characters I could spend more or less depending on how bad I want it really lol.

For a little background I started out collecting starwars adidas I have 10 pairs now and always looking for more. However I saw a hottoy recently at a friends house. It was captain America and I instantly fell in love with it I was like I have to have some of these so I did the only thing I know how and started reading and trying to learn everything I could about action figures.

Thanks, Tom

I'm in a similar situation--I casually collect figures I like (I don't save the packaging, for instance), and so far I haven't bought anything much pricier than some Marvel Legends figures. However, there are a few Hot Toys I'd really like to get (Loki for sure, maybe some others eventually), and for probably obvious reasons, I'd prefer to spend as little money as possible...without getting ripped off. Sideshow is a reliable source, and a decent coupon code can get their prices down to $200 or less, which is at least better than full price. I've seen cheaper (but still pricey) listings on eBay, and I don't know if there's a good way to make sure I'm getting an authentic figure. I don't care so much for authenticity's sake as much as the fact that if I'm going to drop that much money on a figure, I want the thing I'm actually paying for, and I want something that looks as nice as it's supposed to. So if, for instance, I manage to find a Hot Toys Loki on eBay for less than the retail price, how likely am I to get the real thing?

Ok update here I've also been collecting my child hood favorites as well. Got the whole galactus baf marveled legends nip set. I really like the villi as I also bought a thanos diamond select. I really enjoy buying these figures its nostagic because I've always had comic books and loved the movies. The thing I like about the marvel and other smaller figures is there cheaper so I can enjoy more of them. Then here and there splurge on a hot toy lol. Thank you guys that have commented. I have some packages incoming I will try to post some pics up here when all my stuff arrives.

On another note I reallywant tobuild my galactus but then I have to open up all my un opened figures. I don't know what to do. Basically bought them all just to make galactus because I like villains. Now next thing I'm working on is figuring out weather or not to build a display case or to buy one. So many options here.

Thanks for the input guys hoping I can get a few others to chime in.

Check out figure reviews on YouTube. They'll zoom in, move the figure around, point out articulation and accessories, show different versions side by side for size and quality comparisons. Sometimes that really helps one pick over some touched up still images. Good luck. I don't collect 1/6 so I don't know a lot about different makers but hot toys is awesome. U can also dig back through toy news sites like Toyark.

Well I also like the marvel select and diamond select. I just got thanos aka infinity gauntlet and death. Then got zombie Magneto. Like I said starwars is a passion for me so drop the money on those hot toys is just something I had to do. I guess I also like. Some of the cheaper figurines as well but even those have what seems to be a few different versions of each. Seems like gentle giant makes diamond select and has pro makes marvel legends. Those are cool as well. I guess it's just gunna be learn as I go kinda thing but I'm thinking besides starwars im really liking the villian's and just the bigger figures in general like thing hulk etc. also deffinetely getting a ghost rider this week he's the one that got me intrested in comics to begin with.

Hi there, I just popped in to say hello, afraid I can't really help you out, hot toys are faaar to expensive for me. Don't get me wrong if I had the money I'd get some and they'd definitely be Han and Chewy . I believe the die cast ones are mostly ironman so it probably works pretty well for him.

Adidas starwars are awesome, I only have one pair of Stormtrooper High tops but I love them!! Save them for best and if there's a slight hint of dirt around, I ain't wearing them

Sorry I couldn't be more help but maybe try a few groups on Facebook if you're on there, I know there's a few dedicated to hottoys and a few for other 1/6th scale stuff.

3A is another 1/6th producer I've seen a lot of people rave about, they're different in a good way but I don't believe they have any official licenses.
