Usually I just use a nutmeg brown straight out of the bottle, but I've also used some custom colors, in varying shades, that I've mixed up in the past. Start out with a "normal" brown and try adding a little bit of tan, orange, white, or yellow, or a combination of colors, to lighten it up/alter the hue to your liking.

Here's an example of said nutmeg brown (Apple Barrel brand) used for skin color:

Buy a color called citadel foundation Calthan brown. As soon as it drys its a great skin tone that resembles that of Luke Cage, ULT Nick Fury etc.
