HELP- How do I remove polymer modeling clay from a toy???

Posted in Custom Workstation

Hi guys. I got a lot of figures and it appears that some have been attacked by a little boy aspiring to be a customizer with non- hardening polymer sculpting clay. Not only are some of the figs permanently stained, but some have intricate grooves that the clay is jammed into. I tried using a toothbrush with water to no avail. I don't want to damage the figures, is there anyone who knows a compound that will break up this resillient sticky stuff? Also, I did read that freezing the clay will make it crumble off surfaces. Does this work?
Thanks guys.

I would try either acetone or mineral spirits, but stay away from the thinner (just too strong for plastic figs). and you could try using toothpicks to help some of the crevices, but still be careful.

Just read your post and I had a thought. Don't know if it would work OR if anyone has ever tried this but.... what about a pressure washer? You know the kind that takes stains off of decks. Maybe a bit risky but after all it's just high pressure water. Whatever you go with good luck.

You might be able to dissolve the clay using paint thinner, I've also heard mineral oil or spirits can soften and dissolve clay. Be careful, paint thinner can damage the paint and depending on the kind of plastic, melt the plastic; the same might go for the mineral oil/spirits.

Freezing the clay does work at times but I have my doubts weather or not it will work with the clay jammed into small crevices such as that.
