Extend Limbs on X-men toybiz figure?

Posted in Custom Workstation

I am planning to extend the shins, thighs, and torso on this Warstar figure. Alsthough I don't know a good method for doing this. I have sculpting materials, but I need a good method for making a sturdy "bone" in between each extension. Any thoughts?

The plan is to make these Mandroids from the X-men arcade game. They just need to be an inch and a half taller.

I usually use pieces of dowels for this because it's cheep and easy although if I'm worried about strength being an issue I use metal rods that can be purchased for $1.50 a rod at any hardware store and cut them down to size.

Nails work well as bones with this kind of technique. Just drill into each end, cut the nail to desired length and glue it in. In my experience you'll want 2 nails in each limb to maintain stability. If you need a visual aid I can upload a pic, I'm using the same technique on a runaways project.
