Question about color dying a figure

Posted in Custom Workstation

So I'm color dying a figure but I was wondering whether if the figure is primed or not will have any effect on the dying process?

Another factor to consider is that, if the figure is made out of multiple types/kinds of plastic, or other materials, they may absorb the dye differently. For example, I've seen photos of dyed custom fashion dolls where the softer vinyl head, arms/legs changed to a different shade of the dye color than the hard ABS body did. I believe that softer plastics (PVC) absorb the dye better than harder ones.

Depending on the type of primer you are using, I would assume it would come off.

There is a thread on the Fwoosh about dying figures too and it seems that it more changes the tint of the plastic vs actually dying the color of the plastic.

Let us know how it turned out if you try it.

I've never dyed a figure before but I would assume that it would work better without the primer as it would need to dye the actual plastic.
