Toy Biz vs. Kenner vs. Mattel

Posted in Action Figure Chatter

Who makes the better action figures? Who is more focused on detail, durability, articulation, and getting characters right?

Toy Biz is known for many Marvel lines including: Marvel Legends, Marvel Select, Marvel Universe (90s), X-Men (90s), Spider-Man (90s), Iron Man (90s), and others.

Kenner is known mostly for Star Wars figures from the last 20 years (including the awesomely detailed SW Unleashed series), but also has done some Star Trek TNG & Voyager figures, and DC Figures (remember the awesome Total Justice line?).

Mattel has done more of the action figure oriented characters like G.I. Joe, Go-Bots, and others. They also did some recent Star Trek figures.

So what do you guys think?

I think Toybizreally beats out the other two. They beat the other two in the articulation and paint app department hands down.

Actually, I guess you're right, I decided to look at my Mephisto, and it says Marvel Toys, the other name for Toybiz, on the bottom of his foot. And Art Asylum is making them now.

But Mattel had nothing to do with GI Joe or GoBots

I think Dimond sub contracts out to Art Asylum to make their figures.

Not a 100% sure

^ Diamond Select is just where you can exclusively order Selects from. Diamond Select is the company that puts out Previews, the giant book that comes out each month that comic shops order from, and I personally use to order from for my local comic shop. They are just a comic and collectibles distributor, everything they get comes from Marvel, DC, Toy Biz, wherever.

I think you might be confused.

Diamond Select made the Marvel Select figures.

Hasbro makes GI Joe, Tonka made Go-Bots, and I don't think Mattel ever made Star Trek figures.

A better comparison would be between Toybiz, Hasbro, and Mattel, since Hasbro owns Kenner & Tonka now anyway.

Hasbro has made GI Joe, Transformers, Marvel Legends, Star Wars, Marvel Universe

Mattel has made He-man, DCSH/DCUC, Justice League

And I'd say Toybiz, then Mattel(would be tied with Toybiz, if it wasn't for all the breaking problems DCUC has had), then Hasbro.

I think Toy Biz wins that without question!!! I'm not shure who would pull second.
