Giant robot-sized question...

Posted in Action Figure Chatter

Sup figure realmers? I have been scouring the interweb looking for a clear-cut guide to Transformer sizes. I click on link after link trying to find out exactly how tall the leader class figures are without much luck. I want a transformer to stand along side my 6 inch line in as close to the right scale as possible. So does anyone have the Ultimate Bumblebee and the Mech Tech Bumblebee comparison anywhere? Some sites say Ult. is 14" but I'd hate get it home $80 later and have him be 13.1" and have some other version be 12.8" for like half the price. I want to see these two side by side or at least know the differences. And if anyone thinks a different character would work better (bigger), feel free to comment as well. I'm thinking they should stand like treebeard over the LOTR figures ya know? Here are some questions I have been trying to answer. And thanks everyone. I think the community at FR is so awesome. Ya buttered up now? lol

What are the biggest transformers out there (not a combo like Devastator)?

How tall should those transformer characters be compared to MLs type figures?

Does anyone know of a big robotic type of figure line that I could customize to make look like a Transformer (red top and blue legs, voila some alternate version of optimus)?

Would it be better to just add some height to an existing tformer?

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Update: I kept searching, and searching. But I found a guy who blogged about the ult and mech tech tformers. The pictures showed me almost everything I needed. If anyone can think of a better tformer than ult bee to stand along side MLs figures and look appropriately sized, give a shout. Otherwise that's what I'm going with. :-) Peace out y'all.

Thanks guys. I'll keep digging. I may just have to buy a few big ones and then sell the ones that weren't quite right. Cheers and keep the ideas flowin'.

This is sort of why they came up with the class system for transformers but they're still nowhere in scale with each other even then. Leader class tend to be at least 12", legend class about 3-4", then you have the deluxe and whatever other flavor they come up with that are sometimes 6" and sometimes bigger. These aren't set in stone by any means.

Well scale is an infamous issue amongst transformer fans. An example, starscream in 1/12 scale , ML scale would be somewhere around 4-5 ft high in robot mode. Even that's debatable. Unless you wana buy a $3k Gundam- I would stick with let's say a Roadbot, maybe the Ford gt. It's billed at 1/12 scale and can be found for $35 still. You can wiki toy scales and see what I mean. Sizes change to accomodate toy lines and cartoons and comics tend to fudge with characters scales quite a bit. Think about the recent movie. Megatron went from a helicopter to a diesel and in the cartoon a gun. Optimus Prime can be seen in comics roughly the size of Galactus.
