Once again I wanted to try something new with another custom and on this one it was colored clear paint over silver.
I have seen various customizers use this technique and I wanted to give it try. Since I wanted to make an Ultimate Marvelesque Iron Man Movie toy I grabbed the Heavy Artillery Iron Man and got to work. First I drilled new holes in spots on the chest, shoulder pads and waist bad to give it the “energy glow” look and I also sculpted the tubes on the side of the helmet that he has been drawn with. Next I base coated the figure in flat black, dry brushed on some silver Tamiya paint and then did coats of the red and yellow clear coat. I also included a Gundam beam saber for his energy blast. All the energy holes are painted a mix of white and midnight blue.
I am pretty happy with the way this came out; it was my first time using Tamiya metallic and clear coat. The clear coat went on pretty smoothly, however it seemed like the silver was sticky or clunky, even after stirring it would occasionally peel the paint off the figure when I would go over a part I just painted. Has this happened to anyone else or am I doing something wrong? Any advice would help.
