Cable has always been depicted as a big dude with hurt'n baddies as his agenda. So it wasn't enough to just give him muscles - he needed to be a solid figure, imposing in shape and size. And working in the animated style, there's always more opportunity to exaggerate the proportions, taking the character beyond the conventional.
The Frank Miller Superman provided the thick torso and stoic face, replaced the arms from a Toybiz Hulk. The arms were big enough to support his Messiah complex or if he needed to open up a full clip. Sculpted the grooves on the cyborg arm, and the machine hand came from a T-600. A lot of the minor details were sculpted separately (belt straps, hairdo, side pistol, thigh pouches/knee pads) and worked them into the figure. Also used pieces from Omega Red for detailing, boots from a Darth Vader Unleashed and got the weapons from Gears of War. Looked over plenty of ref pics (check out coverbrowserdotcom for every comic cover ever printed) to come up with a color scheme for his suit. Basically it's a combination of several different suits, again keeping in theme with the animated. The cyborg arm was painted with the chrome effect and subdued with a thin layer of silver, airbrushed over. Will be trying out that chrome again on the next custom, using the experience learned from this one.
Just handing in homework to the Realm, thanks for checking this out!
