Hypnos: The Ultimate Enemy! was a 14" figure released in 1976 by Mattel as a foil to their baby-face character Pulsar: The Ultimate Man Of Adventure! It was a freakin' sweet toy and I loved that thing when I was a kid.
His body was transparent except for his head and his back. There was a switch on his side and when compressed it would shoot sparks off inside of his torso, and a spiral inside of his chest would start spinning around. It was a pretty cool action feature, and it worked! That thing used to hypnotize me all the time!
Anyway, I used a translucent DC Direct Martian Manhunter as the base, and it is really the perfect base for this character. The scale is slightly different than the DCUC buck I used for Pulsar, which works well because it gives Hypnos a size advantage over his nemesis, which seems fitting for an alien villain! His arms and legs were painted with transparent purple to retain their luminescence. I included an outdoors photo of him that really captures this effect. All of the straps on his chest and back were dremeled off, and his chest and stomach were clear coated with gloss Mod Podge. His back was painted with opaque paint, but I created a circular design in the center of it with transparent paint, so that if you shine a light through the circle and stare at his chest you will instantly be transported into a jungle of psychedelia the likes of which has not been seen since Alice fell through the looking glass and down the rabbit hole! Ha - not really but this technique does a good job of emulating the action feature of the original toy. I use a bendy clip-on LED light that I bought at the dollar store to use for this purpose. His helmet is from a CTVT Black Knight figure.
Thanks for checking it out! Aloha Mi Amigos!

BIG WOW! Really great custom! I love these old school characters. I had planned on making BIG JIM'S WOLFPACK, because I always wanted them as a kid but never got them... If you make those custom figures you would be on my HERO LIST

Ha ha - I had to sign in to specifically reply to this comment! First, thank you Fast Freddie for your kind words and for taking the time to comment. I am a total Big Jim's P.A.C.K. freak, to the point that I actually have the wolf's head logo tattooed on the back side of my left hand, just like the toys. And I'm not even kidding you lol! Anyway, if you check my previous customs you will see that I did all 6 of the Big Jim characters in both the classic Mego style AND in a GI Joe scale. Hopefully they live up to your expectations, and also I would love to see Fast Freddie style versions of Big Jim's P.A.C.K!

I will have to go and check them out because I don't remember seeing them at all unless they had came through in the past year which I had been absent from the 'realm. I guess we have a love of a lot of the same characters then and that's great!! Well, since you already made them, how about a ML scale MASKATRON! I was gonna make him, but I'm too lazy...haha!
