Back in 1988 I was crazy for the game "Splatterhouse" which had just been introduced to the arcade scene and was wildly popular, much to the chagrin of parents all over the world. Needless to say when I found out that Namco was going to update the series for next-gen consoles, I was ecstatic! While the 2010 version of Splatterhouse was given a luke-warm welcome by the reviewing public, I absolutely loved it. Considering it went through development by two completely separate teams and was delayed along the way, I saw it as a success in introducing the game to a new generation of gamers. Anyway, I enjoyed the game so much that I decided to pay tribute by creating not one, but two custom Rick Taylor figures. (The other is in a six inch scale wearing a different mask & will be submitted later...)
The mask and hair are custom sculpted using Sculpey III.
The "boxer-shorts" are custom stitched fabricated just for this figure.
The chain was purchased at a jewelry-making store (used for necklaces.)
The entire body was painted with Montana Gold artists spray paint in two flesh tones and given a wash of Tamiya acrylics to "dirty" up Rick. Tamiya color was also used for the copious amounts of blood splattered all over Rick's body.
Note: I realize in the game (2010) Rick wears a pair of high-top sneakers, but when I finished working on the body, I thought the bare feet looked so cool and were a fitting throw-back to the arcade original...
