Eddie Van Halen (Music) Custom Action Figure
Custom #:38313
Name:Eddie Van Halen
Custom Type:Action Figure
Toy Series:Music
Date Added:April 12, 2012
Base Figure:Fei Long, Nightcrawler (head)
Height:6.00 inches
Completion Time:22.00 hours
Articulation:21 points
This Eddie Van Halen action figure was made using a Fei Long base with a Nightcrawler head whose hair and mouth has been re-sculpted. The biggest problem I had was, the leg peg broke off while I was working with him. I had to replace his leg peg with one from an X3 Jean Grey and it doesn't quite fit.

When I saw the pants on the Fei Long figure, it reminded me of the pants Eddie wore in Van Halen's (or Van Hagar, if you prefer) video 5150. The shirt was also sculpted.

The guitar was made from a piece of wood that I shaped and sanded; with the strap made from Sinister's cape.

Let me know what you think. (good or bad) **Update** Inserted a reference picture

Thanks for all the comments. I really appreciate them. Someday, I'll have to make the rest of the band to go with him. Diamond Dave or Sammy? I don't know which way to go because both are colorful characters.

I made the guitar out of a neck of a bamboo back scratcher sold at the Dollar Tree because the thickness of it is perfect to make a guitar. I just printed a picture (3 1/2 x 1 1/8 inches) of an electric guitar off the internet, cut a block of wood from the neck of scratcher using the same measurements of the picture, traced the outline onto the bamboo, since I don't have a band saw I used my bench grinder to "grind" out the shape of the guitar. Once I got the basic shape, I sanded like crazy using 80, then 400, then 1000 grit sandpaper. The bamboo really shines up nice and smooth when you do this. I then used epoxy sculpt for the knobs, bridge, and frets. (It was a pain getting the sculpt rolled tiny enough to use as frets and then lining them up) Then I just painted it. I used screws from a cheap, tiny, calculator I had to screw the strap onto it. And that's it!!

Nice upgrade to your first one! This is a great base figure for this, the paints are solid, and the head worked out rather well too! Good stuff!
