This custom has been sitting on my shelf half-finished for nearly 4 years. When I started, this was actually the second custom I ever attempted. That said, it fit this competition perfectly - so I dusted him off, and finally finish him up for this competition.

This custom is of the Legendary Gate, my hero from the late City of Heroes. Among his powers were flight and the ability to wield electricity. The base figure was the Red Tornado from DC Universe. The head was swapped out for DC Universe Batman - the cowl's ears cut down, head rounded out, and two receivers made from Apoxie were added. The cuffs on the wrists and calves were removed, and filled in with sculpy to look like tights. The lighting on his wrists come from the DC Universe Blue Superman and are removable. A tidy paint job, and the figure was complete.

The big work came in the base. The figure sits in a translucent resin base. The base master was sculpted from Apoxie, molded, then cast in a clear resin with blue dye added. Lightning from the back of the Blue Superman was added to the sides to add feature that would not have survived casting, and generally add to the look.

The street platform it sits on is made from a wood plaque bought from a local craft shop. The tarmac was sculpted in sculpy and painted. The bottom was routered out to accommodate a simple LED circuit. The routered section contains a coin battery, battery holder, bright white LED, and leads for a switch on the back, all mounted onto a small perf board. The LED is bright enough to see beaming through in regular room light, and even casts a cool blue light up against the shelve above the figure.

The lighted street base, translucent lightning stand, and figure are not glued together, but they do fit firmly enough to allow the figure to be articulated as desired. A picture of the in-game character is attached from the final moments of COH, a few minutes before the servers went dark. Thanks for checking out my custom and happy modding.

Excellent work! I always love seeing original characters and simple though the design may appear, it's definitely striking. I like the "antennae" they remind me of a tesla ladder (the kind where arcs of electricity climb up between two rods or wires separated by a couple inches) and that base is fan-freakin'-tastic! Well done. Top marks.

Cool looking character; I really dig the big "ears" on him. The costume design is fairly basic, as far as superheroes go, but it works.
