Loki never had much luck, his mother blamed it on his grandfather naming him after the troublemaker god from a religion hardly anyone remembers. Expelled from the Church of Unitology at a very young age for drawing a mustache on a statue of the founder Michael Altman. He was sent to an Earthgov military academy as soon as he was old enough and graduated the top of his class, military life seeming to fit his personality. He served in the resource wars with with Gabe Weller and was shocked to find his friend on the Sprawl suddenly one day working security. There was an opening so Gabe was able to get the man a job working security in a restricted area thanks to his previous record of black ops and mercenary work for certain shadowy groups. He had been putting in vacation requests for a while now, the headaches causing him to black out and hallucinate, and finally thanks to an evaluation by the rather scary group of therapists at the Sprawl asylum showing him ready to snap he was granted the pass.
With one day to go he was looking forward to a fairly quiet day on the job as always until alarms started sounding and rumors about a quarantine breakdown in the sealed areas of Earthgov's sector. It was while he was helping civilians to the escape shuttles while heading for his assigned area that he came face to face with the enemy: the first necromorph he saw was a Leaper that erupted from the ceiling and tore a guard apart before he and the others managed to take it down. As the shuttle launched the sounds of movement was starting to come from all sides of them. The man in front of him was taken down by three Lurker barbs to the skull, blowing out the back of his helmet and nearly blinding Loki's field of vision with gore on his visor. Loki staggered back and managed to find a safe position while the others in his team were torn apart in front of his eyes. He only barely survived by using a detonator gun he grabbed off the squad leader to lay mines as he retreated farther into his believed safe haven and blew the approaching enemy to pieces.
He rested as well as he could for a short time, venturing out as much as he dared to scavenge from his former teammates and is horrified to find that many of the bodies are missing. It is during this last trip farther down the hall towards a guard station that he heard a woman scream. He reloaded his pulse rifle and ran for the source, coming from large maintenance area, and inside he finds a woman surrounded by two Slashers patiently slashing away at the door to the closet she's in. They're already halfway in as Loki opens fire to first take off their limbs and then stomps on their heads to finish them off, the dark part of him who missed combat relishing the sound of meat and bone being destroyed by gunfire and his boot.
He eventually convinces the woman to come out of the closet only for her to latch onto him in a hug as she breaks down in cry, neither having noticed the shadowy movement off to one side, and for a minute he lets his guard down and looks around the room for supplies while still holding her. It is at this point his faceplate is covered by gore as an Infector leaps onto the woman's back, it's tail barb impaling her chest and glancing off his armor hard enough to put a score in it, and drives its infecting tube into her brain. Loki manages to shove her back and opens fire on the woman and the Infector but only the creature falls as the woman staggers and jerks from the impacts. He's horrified to see her shoulders dislocate as they relocate and the bone blades explode from her wrists. Her skin ruptures and bone moves and snaps only to reform in ways that leave him stunned despite his strict training over the years. He doesn't recover until the creature roars and lunges at him. The first slash knocks the pulse rifle away while the other blade manages to sever Loki's hand at the wrist. Nearly blinded by pain the man grabs his pistol and opens fire on the creature's legs while staggering away but it's not enough to sever the limbs.
The next attack Loki manages to nearly dodge as he fires but it knocks his aim off and the shot hits a container of flammable materials int he corner causing a massive fireball that slams them both against the wall. The blast manages to rupture the hull, the entrance sealing instantly as he scrambles to hold onto anything he can with his legs as he shoots the switch to seal the hole but the loss of gravity and the strong suction are making it difficult. He smiles to himself though as the Slasher is lost to space before the shutter comes down but it's a short lived victory as he hears a screech and sees a Leaper jump through the opening just as it seals. He has also realized that the stub of his hand is beginning to swell from the vacuum and his blood is slowly boiling inside his body from the pressure change. If he doesn't escape soon he'll die either from his blood boiling, lack of air, or freezing to death from the cold of space. He manages to get his magnetic boots to work and rushes for a maintenance hatch that has appeared as some boxes took off from the floor but is tackles as he misjudges the distance the Leaper can jump. The creature manages to tear his suit in several places as alarms in his helmet go off and he can already feel the effects of the vacuum. As he begins to black out, not even feeling the Leaper tearing his leg apart or the swelling of his torn flesh to rupture and burst from the confines of the space suit, he sees his mother reassuring him that everything would be fine and he begins to hear an odd sound almost like a calming song that makes him want to sleep. He doesn't even feel the effects of the song on his swelling and bubbling of his wounded flesh as it changes...festers slightly to the point his head bursts from his neck from the pressure inside and the leaper tears off his arm to get to the tender meat inside the armor. His final memory would be that of his mother sitting next to him as a child singing a song he long ago forgot..."Twinkle twinkle little star."
I used certain parts of Isaac for another DS custom of a friend's character and was left with all these parts missing so I figured I'd make a victim of the Sprawl event. The wounds are all Sculpty textured with the body of a DS 2 Neca Slasher. I exaggerated the wounds and the effects the cold and vacuum of space would have to make it look more horrific as well as the effect the signal the Markers give off that regenerate the dead tissue when Infectors aren't around. The wounds are painted Game workshops blood red then scab red with a few flesh tone bits to try and replicate the mangled flesh and then I sealed it with gloss nail polish to give it a wet gore look. I used wood sticks to replicate bones sticking out of the woods. I was going to do the same for the neck but I liked the odd festering blister look. I stripped off major chunks of armor to show that he's been taking a beating. The display base isn't the best but it works for now as it gives a good feeling of zero gravity. It's a peanut butter lid with the same sticks I used for the bones. I'll eventually probably find clear acrylic sticks to use.
