Quint Review - Added by RMaster007
Saturday, December 27, 2025

It's kind of hard to believe Jaws turned 50 this year. Steven Spielberg's iconic thriller about a man-eating shark popularized a sub-genre revolving around the carnivorous sea creature, and it holds up well decades later (I need to rewatch it sometime). NECA did some Mego-esque figures a few years back that were pretty good, but they finally got to do 1/10 scale Ultimates this year for the film's milestone. Since Quint was the only one of the initial figures they did I got, his new version will be the first of the two Ultimates I go over.

The packaging has a retro look to it, with an aged look to the graphics and the iconic poster illustration on the sides. The front has a very nice rendition of Quint, being artwork provided by Stern Pinball (they don't credit who did the illustration, though). Like usual, you'll have to snip out a few plastic constraints for the figure itself, but everything else is held securely in the trays, and as long as you have some scissors handy, getting him open will be no hassle.

Trevor Grove provided the head sculpt for the 8" Quint a few years ago, so it's no surprise he did the heads here as well. The head is spot-on to Robert Shaw's likeness, and it's very similar to what Grove did before, just in a different scale. The paint is clean aside from a few small marks, and the wash for the hat and hair helps bring out the details. He has two other portraits aside from the one with the hat. One has him wearing a bandana, with the same expression as the main head, though the skin tone looks a bit lighter (it could just be the lighter wash on the cheeks). The other extra head is bareheaded and gives him a happy expression, not at all worried about killer sharks. The 8" Quint had the hat and bandana as separate pieces, and it's kind of a shame that's not the case here, but I guess NECA wanted the hair to look better on each one.

At about 7 1/8" tall, Quint has his default clothing on, and I assume Kyle Windrix did the rest of the sculpt work here. The clothes look great, with plenty of sculpted wrinkles and other details, and the wash on the jacket helps bring them out. The shoes also have wash on them for a dirty look, but the color is notably different from the prior clothed version. That one had accurate shoe colors, so why change them here? The skin is a bit reddish, likely because Quint's been out in the sun for a while, and the paint and finish are great. The jacket is a separate piece from the shirt, which is to be expected of a NECA figure, but Quint comes with an extra pair of arms for displaying him without it. The shirt isn't painted like the jacket is, though the wash, like the shoes, makes it look like it needs a good cleaning.

The usual NECA articulation is present for Quint, as he has a barbell head and chest, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles, ball-jointed waist and hips, and swivel thighs and calves. The joints all move with no issues, and the extra parts swap easily, with no need for heat. The accessories are almost the same as the clothed version, as Quint has the same weapons for shark-hunting, including a rifle, a harpoon gun, a machete, and a bat. He also has two cans of beer, one full and one crushed, and this time, NECA actually got the license to use the name of the beer from the film, Narragansett, rather than a clever pun ("Necagetsit". There's also plenty of hands for holding his various items, with right grips designed for the firearms, cans, and machete/bat respectively, and respective left grips for two-handed gun poses and the melee weapons. He also has a few gloved hands, with a gun-holding right and tight and wide left grips. Most of the hands have vertical hinges for proper weapon poses, and combined with the extra heads and arms, there are plenty of ways to display Quint.

When NECA put out their clothed Quint back in 2021, it was one of my favorite figures at the time, and it still is, but I always preferred the Ultimates over those, and I'm glad Quint finally got that treatment. The great paint work and detail, combined with tons of accessories for various display options, make him a fun figure, and a must-have if you're a fan of the movie. I got Hooper too, and he's just as good, but it's a shame Roy Scheider's estate isn't willing to license out his likeness; otherwise, we could get a Brody to complete the trio. Maybe someday NECA could work something out with them, but who knows if they can.

During his first decade, Curtin performed as Rockstar Spud, and worked in the British independent circuit, winning several championships in promotions like International Pro Wrestling: United Kingdom (IPW:UK), One Pro Wrestling (1PW), Revolution Pro Wrestling (RPW), and XWA Wrestling. In 2012, he appeared in the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA, later Impact Wrestling) program British Boot Camp, winning the competition and being signed to a contract with the promotion. In TNA/Impact, he was a two-time X Division Champion.

Curtin left Impact in October 2017 and signed a contract with WWE that same month. He performed under the ring name Drake Maverick, first as the on-screen General Manager of 205 Live, the brand created by WWE for their cruiserweight division (205 lbs. and under), and served for a brief time as the manager of AOP on Raw. In 2019, he became more active as an in-ring competitor, becoming an eight-time 24/7 Champion. He was released from the company in April 2020 due to budget cuts resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Following his release, WWE still had Curtin compete in the multi-month Interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship tournament. Despite losing in the finals, he was given a new WWE contract and joined the NXT brand, where he formed a short-lived tag team with Killian Dain and Grayson Waller, until he returned to the main roster as part of Raw, and was released once again in 2021. He returned to WWE a year later, working as a part of the creative team....[See More]

Varnado began her wrestling career in 2010 on the independent circuit, most notably for Chaotic Wrestling, where she won the Chaotic Wrestling Women's Championship. She signed with WWE in 2012 under the ring name Sasha Banks and was assigned to the developmental territory NXT. She would later win the NXT Women's Championship. Her match against Bayley at NXT TakeOver: Respect in October 2015 was the first women's match to ever headline an NXT TakeOver, the first iron woman match in WWE history, and the longest women's match in WWE history at the time, lasting 30 minutes. Their match was named "Match of the Year" by Pro Wrestling Illustrated (PWI), with Varnado also being named "Woman of the Year".

In 2015, Varnado was promoted to WWE's main roster, where she went on to hold the WWE Raw Women's Championship five times. In 2020, she won the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship at Hell in a Cell, becoming a WWE Women's Grand Slam Champion and WWE Women's Triple Crown Champion. That year, she was named "Wrestler of the Year" by Sports Illustrated. In the main event of WrestleMania 37 – Night 1, Varnado and opponent Bianca Belair became the first two African Americans to headline WrestleMania, WWE's flagship event. After creative issues in 2022, Varnado walked out of WWE and ultimately left the company. She made her debut for NJPW/Stardom at Wrestle Kingdom 17 in January 2023 under the ring name Mercedes Moné and became a one-time IWGP Women's Champion. After her NJPW/Stardom contract ended in December that year, Varnado signed with AEW the following month and made her debut at Dynamite: Big Business in March 2024, subsequently winning the AEW TBS Championship in her AEW in-ring debut at Double or Nothing two months later. In 2025, she ranked No. 1 in the PWI Women's 250 and became the most simultaneously-decorated wrestler of all time, holding 14 belts comprising 12 championships at the peak of her belt collector run.

He earned NBA All-Defensive First Team honors seven times and won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award twice. He also led the NBA in rebounds per game for a record seven consecutive years and won five NBA championships. On April 1, 2011, the Pistons retired Rodman's No. 10 jersey,[5] and he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame later that year. In October 2021, Rodman was honored as one of the league's greatest players of all-time by being named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.

Rodman experienced an unhappy childhood and was often described as shy and introverted in his early years. After attempting to take his own life in 1993, he reinvented himself as a "bad boy" and became notorious for numerous controversial antics. He repeatedly dyed his hair in artificial colors, had many piercings and tattoos, and regularly disrupted games by clashing with opposing players and officials. He famously wore a wedding dress to promote his 1996 autobiography Bad as I Wanna Be. Rodman also attracted international attention for his visits to North Korea and his subsequent befriending of the North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un in 2013.

In addition to being a former professional basketball player, Rodman has appeared in professional wrestling. He was a member of the nWo and fought alongside Hulk Hogan in the main event of two Bash at the Beach pay-per-views. In professional wrestling, Rodman was the first-ever winner of the Celebrity Championship Wrestling tournament.
