Blue-Eyes White Dragon Review - Added by Dark Fire Action Figure Art
Sunday, February 9, 2025

I've had a few Blue-Eyes White Dragon figures over the years. Some decent, others not so good, but this one is by far the best above all the others in my opinion.

Firstly, this a big figure, namely due to the wingspan. This does prove a problem if you wanted to display it in something like a detolf like myself, but I can't fault it for that. The articulation on this figure is also incredible as are the sculpting and the paint job which mixes a almost peal white with a light metallic blue. It is also a solid figure (or at least my copy is), making it very fun to pose.

It includes a flight stand with four arms, three to hold up the dragon itself, and a fourth to hold up an included energy blast effect. If you want to pose the figure in a standing pose it is solid enough to stand on it's own. I've tested this by posing it in several poses based on the various card artworks and the articulation lets it mimic most of those card art poses nearly perfectly.

It captures the Blue-Eyes White Dragon's likeness from both the cards and the anime really well. It's probably my favorite non custom figure in my personal collection. The only real downside to this figure is it's price point, but I'd personally say it's worth if you are a Yu-Gi-Oh! fan, or just love Dragons in general....[See More]
Machiko Review - Added by Dark Fire Action Figure Art
Sunday, February 9, 2025

This was another long awaited figure for me personally. Machiko Noguchi is easily my favorite human character in the Alien and Predator Universe, and NECA did a fairly good job at capturing her appearance from Aliens vs Predator: War.

This figure comes with a couple of accessories in the form of her burner rifle, a removable bio-mask, and an alternate hand. The mask is accurate to the one she wore in Issue 0 though it would have been nice if it had included a more Jungle Hunter-like one, too, as she wore one like it through the rest of the series. The mask's tubes can plug into her shoulder cannon, but it's a bit of a pain to plug them in and keep them in. I put some super glue on the ends, allowed it to dry and that seemed to make them fit more snugly. The rife is accurate to the one she wielded in the comic, and has some great detail, which is par for the course for NECA figures.

The paint job could have been better, but that is a fairly easy fix. The biggest issue with this figure is how fragile it is. I had to buy a couple before I got one that didn't have any quality control issues, and even then I tend to handle the figure with caution. Her hair also hinders her neck articulation quite a bit due to her shoulder cannon, which I feel could have been made more like the Predator figures' dreads to remedy this issue.

There are other figures of Machiko out there, but aside from the Hot Toys one, none of them are articulated and this is by far much more accurate to the character than the Hot Toys figure, which doesn't look like her at all. Problems aside this is a nice figure and is one of my personal favorites. If you're a fan of the original Aliens vs Predator comic series, this is a must have along with Broken Tusk....[See More]
Robocop Review - Updated by Dark Fire Action Figure Art
Saturday, February 8, 2025

This is a decent figure of RoboCop, but it is essentially a reissue of the old Spring Holster RoboCop with some added accessories. The articulation is limited just like their previous RoboCop figures. This isn't a huge deal since RoboCop has pretty stiff movements in the films, but I feel there could have been some upgrades made, given the Hagane Works RoboCop is the same scale and has much better articulation then the NECA figures. The spring holster is very fragile and easy to break on these figures, so I avoid using them at all given I had bad experiences with the previous three releases. This one also should have been the one to be included with the Repair Chair, but that was more of a smart move on NECA's part forcing fans to buy both pristine and battle damaged versions if they truly wanted to recreate any scenes in the repair chair.

This figure includes a long-awaited Alex Murphy head sculpt, which is pretty decent given the scale. It also includes a blast effect for his Auto-9, which fits on it pretty snugly. He also includes an alternate data spikes hand, his iconic Auto-9 pistol and a Cobra Assault Cannon. These three accessories were included with previous releases and aren't really anything new, but they're nice additions to justify the Ultimate figure price point.

In my opinion this is a decent figure, and a good choice if you're not willing to pay for the much more expensive Hagane Works Die-cast RoboCop figure from the Good Smile Company, which IMHO is a much better figure, but is also much more expensive and does lack a Murphy head, which is why I ended up buying both of them anyway. With the NECA figure, you get an alternate Murphy head, with the Good Smile figure, you get alternate battle damaged parts and more articulation, but at a much high cost. If you want a RoboCop for your shelf that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, this is a good choice so long as you don't want to put him in any crazy poses....[See More]

Slithe Review - Added by RMaster007
Wednesday, January 29, 2025

Getting into a line late has its drawbacks, Super7's Thundercats Ultimates line being a good example. It wasn't until around when wave 10 or 11 got revealed that I started getting the figures, missing out on some of the long sold-out figures and exclusives, including Slithe. He was $45 at release, before the Ultimates price hike, and he's now worth up to $150 on eBay. The thought of getting him was priced out for me, but guess who happened to be one of last year's Christmas gifts?

The Reptilian leader of the mutants isn't a pretty face, but we all know how good Rankin-Bass was at designing all sorts of strange creatures. Slithe has a great portrait, done by Four Horsemen Studios, in one of the first Thundercats figures they did for Super7 and not Mattel. He has big, fin-like ears, making him stand out from the other Reptilians (who were only in like, 2-3 episodes), but the face is no less ugly than them. The disgruntled-looking face is sorta Quasimodo-like, and it can be swapped for a head that's also disgruntled, but with an open mouth. Not a completely different look, save for the left eye being squinted rather than the right, but having extra expressions is always a good thing, and both bear clean paint and a good finish.

Standing around the 6 1/2" mark, Slithe isn't so much tall as he is chunky, and he is pretty solid plastic. His hunched-over posture is accompanied by big spikes on the back, and the harness and loincloth over the torso is a separate piece, no doubt a sign that Super7 was planning on reusing this body for those Reptilian army builders, or just because they didn't want it getting in the way of leg movement. Despite his chunkiness, Slithe still has some notable muscles on his arms and legs, more evidence of his strength. The best aspect to the sculpt, however, is all the little scales all over his body, adding more detail to an otherwise flat cartoon design. The paint is almost completely clean, as while there are a few small marks here and there, the edges and consistency are great.

For a bulky figure, Slithe has surprisingly great articulation, with some of the best movement an Ultimate can have. He gets a barbell head, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles, ball-jointed waist, and swivel thighs and tail. The joints move fine and have plenty of range, and while there's a tiny bit of looseness, it's nothing that'll really impact him. He also has no problems swapping heads or hands, and he gets two pairs of hands: gripping and clawing. It wouldn't have hurt to include a pair of closed hands or vertically-hinged grips, but I guess the figure's size didn't leave much room for extras. They were able to fit in two different axes - one with a spear tip and thin blade and another with a stick-like handle and roughed-up blade - and a mace. The weapons look great, and the axes work well in two-handed poses. The accessory count may be a little lighter than most of the other figures, but it's not as bad as some other Ultimates.

I already heard a lot of praise for this figure, and having him in hand confirms he's earned it. He looks great, moves well, and is just a big hunk of scaly plastic. If Super7 was more willing to reissue Ultimates, Slithe would likely be one of them, but there's a higher chance of him being retooled into an LJN-accurate version. That would be neat, but it looks as if vintage-inspired figures aren't on their radar right now, so you best save up some cash for him on the aftermarket, and a little bit more for his troops.
