Debuting only 11 issues after Batman, Robin quickly earned his place as an invaluable ally by proving himself in fight after fight. Unlike many characters that debuted in the Golden Age of Comics in the 1930s and 1940s, Robin's tragic backstory has changed little in the years since, despite continuity-altering events such as Crisis on Infinite Earths. Throughout all his incarnations, Dick Grayson was the son of circus aerialists, who was adopted by Bruce Wayne (aka Batman) after his parents were killed by gangster Anthony Zucco. After years of fighting by Batman's side, Robin eventually left the Batcave to attend college at Hudson University.
