An eerie aerial adventurer. As much of a mystery to his fellow Decepticons as he is to his enemies. Talks little, reveals less. Spends most of his time off on his own. Enjoys scaring unwary Autobots and then attacking them while they're off guard. Equipped with infrared attack sensors in helicopter Mode. He refuses to share the technology with his colleagues in case they decide to use it against him.

Teamed with two Nebulans: Singe, a playboy with an unrequited crush on Lord Zarak's daughter Llyra, and Hairsplitter, an efficiency expert whose talent for spotting slackers was appreciated by Zarak. Singe converts to a dual flamethrower and Hairsplitter turns into a twin lock-target laser rifle.

Spinister spots some potential in Needlenose, a fellow member of the Mayhem Attack Squad, so he has taken the latter under his wing, covering Needlenose's beginner mistakes.
