In 2002, Daniels played a crucial role in the launch of ROH, competing in the main event of its inaugural show, The Era of Honor Begins, against Low Ki and Bryan Danielson. After the match, Daniels refused to adhere to ROH's "Code of Honor" by declining to shake hands, positioning himself as a defiant antagonist. This act led to the formation of The Prophecy, a faction he co-founded with Donovan Morgan, later joined by Xavier, B.J. Whitmer, and Dan Maff .
The Prophecy quickly asserted dominance in ROH. Daniels and Morgan became the inaugural ROH Tag Team Champions, while Xavier, with Daniels' assistance, captured the ROH World Championship from Low Ki. The faction's influence peaked when they held all major titles in ROH. However, internal conflicts and external rivalries, notably with Samoa Joe and The Second City Saints, led to their decline. A significant turning point was Daniels' loss to Samoa Joe in a title match, after which he was sidelined from ROH due to TNA's restrictions on its contracted talent participating in ROH events .
Daniels also wrestled in TNA beginning in 2002, where he formed the faction Triple X with Low Ki and Elix Skipper under Vince Russo's Sports Entertainment Xtreme. Triple X became a formidable force in TNA's tag team division, securing the NWA World Tag Team Championship multiple times. Their intense rivalry with America's Most Wanted culminated in a high-stakes Six Sides of Steel match at Turning Point in 2004. The loss forced Triple X to disband, marking a significant chapter in TNA's tag team history .
Post-Triple X, Daniels focused on singles competition, particularly in TNA's X Division. He captured the X Division Championship at Destination X in 2005, initiating a record-setting reign. Daniels' tenure as champion featured notable defenses against competitors like Elix Skipper and Chris Sabin. His rivalry with A.J. Styles intensified, leading to a critically acclaimed three-way match also involving Samoa Joe at Unbreakable in 2005. This match is often heralded as one of TNA's finest, showcasing the athleticism and storytelling prowess of all three competitors .
