Earthquake began his career in Japan; initially in sumo, then joining All-Japan Pro Wrestling in 1987. Competing alongside such greats as “Giant” Baba, he quickly drew the attention of American promoters, and signed with the World Wrestling Federation in 1989.

Earthquake was paired with manager Jimmy Hart upon his arrival, and his career took off quickly in the WWF. He became an unstoppable force, decimating opponents with his infamous “Earthquake Splash”. As a singles competitor, he feuded with established stars like Hercules, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, and Hulk Hogan.

Later, Earthquake teamed with Typhoon to form the “Natural Disasters”, and wrestled prominent matches with The Legion of Doom, Money Inc., and the Beverly Brothers. They were able to capture the tag titles, but didn’t hold them for long, and the partnership was eventually dissolved.

During the WCW’s mid-90’s rise in prominence, Earthquake was brought into the company at the behest of Hulk Hogan. Here he wrestled under the names “Avalanche”, “The Shark”, and his real name, John Tenta. After a decent three-year run in WCW, Earthquake returned to WWF as the masked South Park aficionado “Golga”, a member of “The Oddities”. This was his last prominent role, though he continued to wrestle independently until he retired in 2004.
