Kid Flash began his wrestling career in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) on March 6, 1996 during a non-televised match against Chris Kanyon. He then competed as "Billy Cannon" on April 10 before settling on the name "Billy Kidman" on May 13. Kidman made his televised debut on the May 18 episode of WCW Saturday Night, losing to Diamond Dallas Page. Despite not winning many matches early on, Kidman received an opportunity to challenge for the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship on the September 9 episode of Monday Nitro, where he was unsuccessful against champion Rey Misterio Jr. Kidman failed to capture the title again in December when he challenged then-champion Dean Malenko.

In 1997, Billy Kidman struggled to find success in WCW, losing most of his matches and rarely appearing on WCW Nitro or pay-per-view events. However, his fortunes took a turn on the October 13, 1997 episode of Nitro, when he aligned himself with the misfit heel stable known as The Flock, which included Raven, Saturn, and Sick Boy. Kidman underwent a character transformation, now appearing unkempt and exhibiting traits of a heroin addict, such as constantly scratching his arms. Though he still frequently lost matches, Kidman became a regular presence on Nitro, often assisting his Flock stablemates in helping Raven win his own bouts.Kidman continued to primarily wrestle fellow cruiserweights, developing an ongoing rivalry with Juventud Guerrera.

His first solo pay-per-view match came at Bash at the Beach 1998 in a losing effort against Juvi. By this time, tensions within The Flock were building, as the power struggle between Raven and Saturn threatened to tear the group apart. At Fall Brawl 1998, Saturn defeated Raven with the stipulation that The Flock would disband. When Kidman appeared during the match and delivered a dropkick to Raven, it signaled his defection from the group. Following The Flock's disbandment, Kidman challenged Juventud Guerrera for the Cruiserweight Championship on the next episode of Nitro - and this time, he emerged victorious, finally becoming a champion in his own right, free from the constraints of Raven's group.

After winning the Cruiserweight Championship from Juventud Guerrera, Billy Kidman held the title for two months before losing it back to Juvi on an episode of Nitro. However, Kidman reclaimed the championship just six days later at the World War 3 pay-per-view. During his second Cruiserweight title reign, Kidman formed a tag team with Rey Misterio Jr. Despite their friendly alliance, the two continued to compete against each other for the Cruiserweight Championship. On March 15th, Rey Misterio Jr. defeated Kidman to win the title.

Though Kidman had lost the Cruiserweight belt, he and Misterio soon won the Tag Team Championship together. Their friendly rivalry over the Cruiserweight title continued, with Rey retaining the championship against Kidman at April's Spring Stampede pay-per-view. At the May 9th Slamboree pay-per-view, Kidman and Misterio, along with Dean Malenko/Chris Benoit and the realigned team of Saturn/Raven, competed in a three-way match for the Tag Team Championship. In the end, Saturn and Raven emerged victorious in capturing the Tag Team titles.Following the loss of the Tag Team Championship at Slamboree, Billy Kidman continued appearing regularly on television, though he did not return to pay-per-view until he formed an alliance with Rey Misterio Jr., Konnan, and Eddie Guerrero.

The four men, now referred to as the "Filthy Animals", had come together on-screen to battle another faction known as the Deadpool. However, they were real-life friends who had been frequently allied with one another on television for several months prior to Kidman referring to the group as "just a bunch of filthy animals". On the October 25th episode of Nitro, Kidman and Konnan won the Tag Team Championship from Harlem Heat. They held the titles for about a month, but on the November 22nd Nitro, in a match against Creative Control that saw Rey Misterio Jr. substituting for Konnan, the Filthy Animals lost the Tag Team Championship.

After losing the Tag Team Championship with Konnan, Billy Kidman continued his alliance with the Filthy Animals stable. However, in January 2000, Kidman began drifting towards more solo pursuits. Then in April 2000, Kidman, along with Konnan and Rey Misterio Jr., joined the villainous New Blood faction. This group was led by Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo, with the intent of overthrowing the older, established wrestlers and putting the focus on younger talent. Kidman stepped to the forefront of the New Blood group and began a feud with wrestling icon Hulk Hogan. On the April 24th episode of WCW Thunder, Kidman scored a pinfall victory over Hogan. However, Kidman subsequently went on to lose several matches to the Hulkster.

Kidman remained with WCW until the company was purchased by the WWF (now WWE). He then wrestled for WWE for several years before transitioning into a road agent role.
