Topics: Where to buy? by Xiphos -
Saturday, December 30, 2023
Ollie's Bargain Outlet (in 30 states) buys clearance/closeouts like Ross does. I've bought Legends and most recently McFarlane DC Multiverse figures there. Can be hit/miss (like Ross) and not every store gets the same assortment, but if there's one near you, it's worth looking.
Nice. I'll check them out too. I've heard all of the discount retailers that operate on a model of buying overstock from first run retailers have toys in stock periodically. I'll look at TJ Max and Burlington soon as well.

There are profiles for both Shadowcat and Kitty Pryde. Is there a way to merge them?

Topics: Variants? by wwbdub -

Why wouldn't they? Most other figures have separate entries for variants. If they don't have entries, it is probably because nobody has made them yet. If you have those figures, or at least knowledge of those figures...

I am glad you found something that worked out well! I also do not have a large fodder bin (yet). I have a few duplicate figures, and some broken figures in need of repair, but those are mostly ARAH and I don't really want to scrap them.

I have seen some others on this forum make clothing that wasn't cloth. I am not sure what all they have used. I think some mentioned electrical tape and sugru among other materials. Also modifying plastic clothing from other figures.

Unless there is recent sales history online, really hard to say. Only Plan B figurines/busts that I could see any sales for were Dark Crystal.

It is Hasbro, they will keep pumping out whatever makes money.

So whether or not they continue the line is really going to depend on fan uptake. Quick glance over at Pusle, 4 figures from the line are currently sold out.

I don't know how that compares to SW Black, ML, and GI Joe classified sales.
Topics: ML Super-Adaptoid custom wings by Dormammu-1976 -
Monday, October 23, 2023
So the early Super-Adaptoid wings are kind of an odd shape. Honestly, I would go look at some random plastic kitchen spoons at the dollar store etc., and cut them down and add any additional detail you want with fodder/sculpt. Once they are hit with the same base paint, and any dry brush/weathering that you apply to the rest of the figure, I don't think most people would know that the wings didn't come with it.
That is if you are going for a Tales of Suspense 84 cover type appearance. If you are going more for an X-men ('63) 29 cover appearance, you could probably just get away with cutting some styrene.

OG Joes are 12" dolls. The original, and the '90s and later rereleases should all be essentially the same size. I don't have any OG, only the '90s dolls, so I can't tell you the minor differences that may exist.
I don't do any customizing (yet, I am sure you all will be a bad/good influence), but a quick search on the bay popped up a couple of options.

I am just curious, since many lines are constructed differently, do you run into "compatibility" issues, or do you just come up with work arounds on the fly to make parts with different style connections work?

Great!...I'm glad you like it!...I'm still working on the spacedock for the micro-machines scale.
I know I am necro-posting, but I wonder if this project ever came to fruition. I collect the Star Trek Micro Machines pretty heavily, and this would be interesting to see.

You collect the Playmates STNG figures? Or, just, any and all STNG? I have a fair amount of the Playmates, but if you have "one of the largest collections", I don't know if I would have any you are missing to trade.
Amazing work! Love the attention to detail.

I haven't started customizing yet, but I approach figure collecting the same way I approach comic collecting. "low grade is better than no grade."

Basically, if the best I can find for a given figure at a reasonable price is a loose incomplete figure, well then that will have to do. If the difference between a decent open/used figure, with some or all of the accessories and a MOC/MIP figure is $10 for the loose, and $150 for the carded/boxed, I am taking the loose all day long. I would rather have 15 fun loose figures than one "mint" figure for the same money.

I do the same thing with comics. I would rather have a whole run of mid grade readers (because I actually like to read them) than a handful of very high grade books for the same money. ...

Like the same look as the Mego Batman 12" doll but plastic for 1/12?
Steal the cape from something like this maybe? Is painting the cape out of the question if it is the harder plastic sort?

I really like some of the Marvel Legends, but I have noticed the newer stuff isn't as cool as the older waves IMHO. They seems to shovel them out with ever growing frequency. The old ToyBiz ones, esp the early BAF and pre-BAF, were the dog's bollocks. Even the ones uglier than a bull terrier's balloon knot were interesting sculpts, and highly detailed.

Same here Lesley. It seems there is no easy way to spend my $$$$ buying their kool stuff.

I would like the Shrike figurine, from the book Hyperion....

[Picture]
That would be a really fun figure to make. Also a great book series.

I feel like 1/4 scale would allow one to do the character justice with the right level of detail.

Close, but it sounds like it would be to flexible and wouldn't hold its shape when posed. I'm looking for something like this, but in longer lengths.

Use a stiff wire inside the conduit to hold the shape. Like lockwire, or some medium gauge solid core electrical wire.
