Low-Light
G.I. Joe - Pursuit of Cobra (Hasbro) - Basic Series
Rated 4.50 stars by kingdiegond
The relaunch of figures often divides opinions in the community of collectors. And the 50-year-old commemorative collection is full of them. Some do not make sense because they are unattractive figures. Others are relaunching of coveted and rare material, which is the case of Low-Light released in 2011 in the Pursuit of Cobra collection. Low-Light features everything a modern GI Joe collector could expect. The look goes back to the original 1986 release, but with an upgrade to the present day. From the use of already used molds, passed through the detailing of the jacket to the new head sculpt, the design of the character hits in full. The colors also refer to the classic look of the night shooter. The jacket slightly limits the joints of the torso, but for a character whose main pose...[See More]
Cobra Commander (Renegades)
G.I. Joe - 30th Anniversary (Hasbro) - Wave 2
Rated 4.00 stars by kingdiegond
The cartoon G.I. Joe Renegades generated adverse reactions among fans of the franchise when it was released in 2010. The more cartoonish style of drawing shared opinions among collectors. Among the characters, one of the most awaited was that of the Commander Cobra. This action figure well represents the "anime" spirit of production, while keeping a foot in the "realism" that so many fans expect. The figure has several unpublished pieces that form a slender and elongated silhouette, as in the drawing. Only the legs were previously used in Red Star (v2). The face partially covered by a metallic mask presents a white, giving a sick aspect. The painting is a little pale compared to the cartoon, which appealed to some, but took some of the vivacity of the figure. The darker shade of blue that...[See More]
Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes
Marvel Legends (Hasbro) - Iron Monger Series
Rated 3.50 stars by kingdiegond
The movie Iron Man III has been subject to harsh criticism (some unfair, in my opinion), but every collector must agree in something: in there where plenty opportunities for a lot of action figures. One of them is the Stark's best friend Rhodey, but this time, not as War Machine, but with the colours of Iron Patriot. The Marvel Legends version of this character was released in the Iron Monger Series, being accompanied with the left arm to build this figure. The Iron Patriot itself seens to represent accurately this cinematic counterpart. Some details astonish, like the armour itself and the sculpt of some joints. The body has good proportions. The paint work could be a bit more whimsical. Some colours bleed over the others, and the result overall makes an appearance of cheap toy. At...[See More]
X-Force Wolverine
Marvel Legends (Hasbro) - Hit Monkey Series
Rated 4.00 stars by kingdiegond
This is the second release of the X-Force Wolverine, of the acclaimed comic series more adult oriented. The first bersion was released in a pack along with Psyloche and Archangel. This relaunch was in the Hit Monkey Series, of 2013. This mold was used some times for Wolverine figures. It´s not a problem, because the sculp is awesome! The figure represents well the shortness and bulkiness of Logan. By the time the figure was released, it had the better claws for the characters since ToyBiz years. The paint work is another highlight. The combination of black and silver works very well. The black paint also have a blue shadowing effect that match the colour scheme. Hasbro hit the skin tone of the character too. Even the hair in the arms are painted. The only problem is the bleeding of...[See More]
Captain America
Marvel Legends (Hasbro) - Arnim Zola Series
Rated 5.00 stars by kingdiegond
Released in 2012, in the return of the 6” Marvel Legens by Hasbro, the 'Bucky Cap' Captain America soon became one of the most used molds for medium build characters. It's understandable, since the mold is almost perfect. The figure represents James 'Bucky' Barnes wielding the title of Captain America after the alleged death of Steve Rogers. It's an accurate version of what we seen in the comics. The head is awesome, the body has good anatomy and the figure also has even a gear glued into the hips, with pouches, holsters and a canteen. The paint is fine. Molded mostly in black plastic, there are few shadowing effects. The blue parts have a marblng effect, a good skin tone and the details are well painted. There's no ink bleeding througout the diferent colours. Even the eyes are paint...[See More]
Hulk
Marvel Legends - Infinite Series (Hasbro) - Thanos Series
Rated 3.50 stars by kingdiegond
For the Age of Ultron, Marvel Legends released just three characters from the movie. Movie versions of Captain America, Iron Man and Hulk where released in the Thanos wave, in 2015. Of these, Hulk is the best one. As expected, the figure is bulk as the character, but, comparing with the other figures from the line, could be even bigger. It has the right proportions, a terrific head sculp and great details. Even the pants have texture. The paint could be a little better. There's almost no paint work, it's just green and purple plastic. The shades of green skin we seen in the screen are not matched in this figure, unfortunately. The articulations are okay. The ball joints in the hips don't work fine, but the rest is acceptable. The figure has no accessories beyond the arm of Thanos BAF....[See More]
Soldiers of A.I.M. (Baron Zemo)
Marvel Legends - Infinite Series (Hasbro) - Mandroid Series
Rated 3.50 stars by kingdiegond
Being released in 2013, as part of Mandroid Series, Baron Zemo (Soldier of A.I.M.???) is one more figure to use the Bucky Cap mold (who has been used a thousand times since then). To be honest, a character with the relevance of Zemo deserved a better figure. Being fair, the Bucky mold fits well this time. It has good proportions and an atletic average built. The lines of the mask are well sculpted. It has a removable harness with two holsters with guns. It would be awesome if the guns could be removable from the holters, but they are sculpted into it! The paintwork is sloppy. No shadowing effects, colours that don't match with the comic character, and the purple ink barely cover the yellow plastic of the forearms. On the other hand, the articulations work fine, a fact who justify the...[See More]
Spider-Man (Movie)
Marvel Legends - Infinite Series (Hasbro) - Green Goblin Series
Rated 4.00 stars by kingdiegond
The Amazing Spider Man 2 isn't a great movie, but it gave an awesome look to Spidey. It was clear that Hasbro should make an action figure in the Marvel Legends line. This figure came in the ultimate Green Goblin Series. The figure is lanky and flexible. The web work is carved into the figure, instead of the high-relief seen in the movie. It works well. The legs are not well fitted in the hips, what seen a bit strange, but help the articulations. The paint miss some spots inside the web carvings, but not compromise so much the general paint work. My only gripe is the red of the double joint in the arms, who should be painted blue. The slenderness of the figure helps a lot with the articulations. It affords almost every pose and movement possible. For a character so dynamic as...[See More]
War Machine
Marvel Select (Diamond Select) - Iron Man 3
Rated 4.20 stars by kingdiegond
Iron Man III is a terrible movie, but was what give us more action figures! Tons of versions of armours for Iron Man, and even for War Machine. This Mark II War Machine does not apear in the movie (it appeared as the Iron Patriot suit, with different colours). The Mark II WM is somekind 'bland', even more comparing to the Mark I (of the Iron Man II movie) who had a lot of weapons and where much more imposing. The figure made by Diamond Select is a true translation of the design of War Machine. It has a secondary head sculpt showing the features of Don Cheadle. The paint is fine, but not great. Is a bit opaque. Even so, it has the effect of a metal armour. The wrinten details are also well made. The articulations works fine, altough the shoulder pads restrict the range of the arms and...[See More]
Captain America
Marvel Select (Diamond Select) - Captain America - The First Avenger
Rated 4.40 stars by kingdiegond
Captain America: The First Avenger may have divided opinions, but one thing is right: the suit made for Captain America is awesome! It took the classic look of the character and insert in a world plagued by the WWII, using realistic elements. Diamond Select could translated it into plastic very well. This Marvel Select Cap has a highly detailed sculpt. The head bears a slight remembrance of Chris Evans with the mask (in this case, is more of a helmet). All we see in the movie is here: the texture of the fabric of military clothes and leather, the buckles and pins, the pouches, etc. The figure is well painted. Some washes give it an effect of 'worn' suit. The white parts are somewhat 'dirty', adding realism to the figure. The pallet of colours is the closest possible to the movie,...[See More]
