Goro
Mortal Kombat (Palisades) - Basic Series
Rated 3.75 stars by Milbury
Calling Goro here a figure is a bit of a misnomer -- 'articulated statue' would really be a better term for him. His neck and upper wrists are the full extent of his articulation, unless you count the ability to swivel his ponytail. Set in a crouching stance, he's at least easy on case space, and because of it scales well with the Jazwares MK figures and acceptably with the McFarlane ones. He's well detailed (more so than the disappointing Jazwares Goro) and his grimacing face fits the brutish sub-boss fans know and love. He also comes with a spiffy brick floor/wall stand with the MK logo on it, an accessory shared by all four figures in the Palisades MK line. He might not be worth the high price he currently commands on the secondary market, but if your collection is lacking in a Goro...[See More]
Midnighter
Authority (DC Direct) - Basic Series
Rated 2.50 stars by Milbury
This Midnighter is a very dull and bare-bones figure that isn't likely to appeal to anyone except for fans of the character. His articulation is straight out of 90s era ToyBiz days, so posing him for battle scenes is out. His build is scrawny and not at all fitting for a Batman expy, and next to just about any take on the Caped Crusader he looks woefully thin. Accessories are nonexistent -- this guy doesn't even come with a logo of his team to stand on. Sadly this is the only figure the character has ever gotten, so if you're a fan of Midnighter you may as well bite the bullet and grab him. Otherwise, save your case space and hope McFarlane does this bad boy justice some day....[See More]
Captain Atom (Gold) (Chase)
DC Universe Classics (Mattel) - Wave 4
Rated 2.50 stars by Milbury
Nate here is about as plain a figure as they come. No accessories, no base, no open hands to hold anything, just the basic two-fisted figure with standard Marvel Legends-era articulation and that's it. The KC-era styling of his uniform at least sets him apart from the even blander standard Wave 4 Captain Atom, but besides that he's dull as dishwasher. Recommended only for fans of the Captain Atom character or anyone who wants a sidekick for their Wave 19 Magog....[See More]
Doomsday
DC Universe (Mattel) - Signature Collection
Rated 4.50 stars by Milbury
A release exclusive to the 2014 SDCC, this Doomsday got a lot of flak for not being the unsuited Doomsday most fans are familiar with. Judged on its own merits, however, this is a perfectly good figure, and I daresay even the best Doomsday figure released to date. Standing at roughly nine and a half inches tall, this Doomsday towers over the New 52 BAF and stands even with the Doomsday Unleashed version released later that year. The cables around his body are all detailed and one of them swings loose like a whip. Even the figure's package is a work of art. The only negative I can give this figure is that there is no shackle at his back allowing him to fight the Justice League "with one hand behind his back!" as the original prison suit Doomsday did. That flaw aside though, this figure...[See More]
Hydro-Man
Amazing Spider-Man (Toy Biz) - Series 2
Rated 1.50 stars by Milbury
This Hydro-Man figure is, in every way, a throwback. Don't be fooled by his release date, his articulation comes straight out of the early 90s era of ToyBiz figures. His elbows have no joints, contrary to the figure's appearance, and his build is very thin and anemic, a far cry from the bulky muscle this superpowered thug should bring to bear. Too small to look right besides Marvel Legends, too tall to fit in with a classic ToyBiz collection, this figure is really just a lame duck in every way. Which is sad, because this is probably the best costume the character ever had. Pass this wet fart of a figure by and get the 2018 Hasbro Hydro-Man if you want a representation of the character, sometimes the newer figures are not always better than their predecessors but in this case it is....[See More]
Cooler
Dragon Ball Z - Movie Collection (Irwin Toys) - Tubed Packaging
Rated 4.50 stars by Milbury
If you're looking for a Coola to stand head and shoulders above your heroes, look no further! At an even 11' tall counting the tips of his head spikes, this villain is absolutely huge and more than does justice to the towering monster from DBZ Movie 5. He's somewhat slimmer than how he is depicted in other figures, but imo this makes sense for a member of Frieza's race. His only 'accessories' are a detachable tail and face mask, and his articulation is somewhat limited, but for sheer presence on your shelf I rate this cool customer above all other depictions of the character, even the spiffy new S.H.Figuarts version....[See More]
Kaneda
3D Animation from Japan (McFarlane) - Akira
Rated 3.50 stars by Milbury
MacFarlane's 20+ year old portrayal of the cocky antihero of the anime classic AKIRA still represents one of the only options fans of the character have for including him in their collections. At 6.75 inches he's rather tall for inclusion in a classic 6 inch figure lineup, though he's perfectly sized for the new 7 inch offerings from MacFarlane. His articulation is extremely limited and he cannot sit on the bike figure that was released alongside him, a hideously glaring mistake to collectors both then and now. But he is crafted well and includes all the accessories one would want a Kaneda figure to have, including his laser rifle, power pack, and even racing goggles (that can barely fit his head). If you're a fan of the character grab him, but if you're not you should probably pass...[See More]
Parasite
DC Super Heroes (Mattel) - Series 5
Rated 4.00 stars by Milbury
As of 2022 this is the best Parasite available for a 6-inch collection but the figure is not without his flaws. He has no foot pegs, a strange omission for a DC figure that makes it impossible to stand him on any peg base. He's also (imo) somewhat short for the character, standing at a mere 6.5 inches when fully erect. Put him next to one of the Metallos or especially one of the new DC MULTIVERSE figures and he just looks sad. On the plus side he captures the image of the post-Crisis Parasite perfectly and he's perfectly sized to menace the Superman of a 4-inch collection. All in all, he's a serviceable figure and worthy of a spot on any DC/Superman roster, even for those who wish he was bigger....[See More]
Gorilla Grodd
DC Multiverse (McFarlane) - Injustice 2
Rated 4.50 stars by Milbury
Definitely the most detailed Grodd ever made. Compared to this bad boy the old Mattel C&C and the Alex Ross version are nothing but damn dirty apes. Has an issue with standing up without his stand (a problem common to top-heavy figures like him) and the articulation is limited but other than that, no complaints....[See More]
