Damian as Robin
Batman Incorporated (DC Direct) - Basic Series
Rated 3.90 stars by JeddTheJedi
So far, this is the only figure of Bruce Wayne's biological son Damian Wayne as Robin. Previously, a figure of Damian in his League of Assassins jumpsuit was released for the Batman and Son line. The figure is the right size and build for a kid of about 10 with appropriately skinny arms and legs. Usually, figures of kid characters are stylised with oversized heads or bulging muscles, and this one actually looks like, well, a kid. It also features an excellent headsculpt with great-looking mask and hair, and on a ball joint so you can add some character to the poses. However, I would have preferred it if the figure had a bit of a smile or grin, given Damian's mischievous nature. The cape is made of a flexible vinyl-ish material, with a leathery texture on the inside which is quite...[See More]
Joker (Hammer Strike)
Batman - New Animated (Mattel) - Basic Series
Rated 3.50 stars by JeddTheJedi
Many people have mixed feelings about the character designs on the animated show "The Batman" and indeed the show itself, but it does have its charms. This version of the Joker has a pretty cool look, with dramatic green hair that sorta looks like dreadlocks, large yellow teeth, squinted red eyes, bare feet and straitjacket. This design worked in the context of the show, and is translated pretty well into action figure form here. The defining features of the design pop out, and the paint work is good featuring the bright colours from the show's Joker. The green of the hair and the pale white of the skin in particular are important aspects of the character. The straitjacket is also an interesting addition to the Joker's look, instead of his traditional purple suit. There is a half-way...[See More]
Jervis Tech: The Mad Hatter
Batman - Arkham City (DC Direct) - Series 2
Rated 3.70 stars by JeddTheJedi
Some stores here in Singapore got the Arkham City wave 2 figures (all except the Riddler) and made them available as a set. Since I didn't like the Batman figure and the hideous Catwoman, I convinced a store-owner to let me get Mad Hatter by himself, and I wanted to get Hush too but ran out of money. Anyway, the first thing you'd notice about this figure is it's small. Coming in at about 4 inches and just a little over half the size of the rest of the figures, many have said that the figure is not worth getting because it's the same price as the full-sized figures, and that it should have come as an accessory instead. Value for money non-withstanding, the figure is a very good representation of the Mad Hatter as he appears in the side mission in Arkham City. I don't have any figures...[See More]
Lara Croft
Tomb Raider - Cradle of Life (SOTA) - Basic Series
Rated 3.80 stars by JeddTheJedi
I have to preface this review by saying how much I regret ripping the head off this figure and ruining it for a custom that never panned out. It is a really nice figure, and depicts Lara as she appears in the Cradle of Life movie, wearing a jacket with the image of a tiger on the back that she picked up in Hong Kong. Lara also comes with bare arms that you can switch out to replicate her unjacketed look. This figure is almost just as good as the other Lara in this line, the one in the silver wetsuit. Like that figure, Lara is highly articulated, featuring double-jointed elbows and knees among other POAs. The face is a good likeness of Angelina Jolie, apart from looking slightly bored and, like the wetsuit figure, having too high of a forehead and a receeded hairline. There is a slight...[See More]
Lara Croft (Wetsuit)
Tomb Raider - Cradle of Life (SOTA) - Basic Series
Rated 4.00 stars by JeddTheJedi
We all know the body-hugging silver wetsuit Angelina Jolie donned to play Lara Croft in the movie sequel from the film's poster. She spends the beginning of the movie in it, and looks pretty darned good in it too. So, it's good to have an action figure representation of this look. There are only three figures in this line, but these figures by SOTA Toys are certainly a step up from Playmates' toys from the first film. First off, it's super articulated, with double joints everywhere! Also, the sculpt is really nice, with nice texture on the suit and very nice boots. The headsculpt is generally excellent, and looks a lot like Angelina - except for the receeded hairline, that gives her too high of a forehead. The main problem with the figure are that the arms are really really long, and...[See More]

Lara Croft vs. S.I.M.O.N.
Tomb Raider (Playmates) - Basic Series
Rated 3.50 stars by JeddTheJedi
I'm a big fan of the Tomb Raider franchise, and loved the first movie even though most everyone thought it was mediocre. It's one of those guilty pleasures, and seeing Angelina Jolie as the character was my sexual awakening of sorts when I was about 8. I jumped at the chance to purchase this when my local toy store was having a clearing out sale. First off, the SIMON robot. It's apparently named after the director, Simon West. In the DVD special features, it is said that the toy designers visited the set, and that the two prongs on top of the toy robot's head were actually clamps holding up the prop on set. There's an action feature where the four arms pop out when you hit the button on its chest, which is cute. The robot appears pretty plasticky, and has far less points of articulation...[See More]
Batgirl (Cassandra Cain)
JLA Classified (DC Direct) - Classic - Series 2
Rated 3.00 stars by JeddTheJedi
This Batgirl is a repaint of the Elseworld's Finest Batwoman, with a different head. The problem is that the Batwoman figure had a stocky body in line with the Ed McGuinness art style, complete with large thighs. Problem is, it doesn't fit this character, who is supposed to be lean, lithe and agile. However, given the circumstances, it's a decent conversion into Cassandra Cain, and the headsculpt is pretty nice. The cape works pretty well too. It is pretty difficult to find an action figure of the Cassandra Cain incarnation, given that the DCSH and First Appearance version are pretty much impossible to find. For me, this will have to do....[See More]
