Mouser
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates!
Rated 4.40 stars by RMaster007
A common element in the TMNT franchise, Mousers are small, chomping robots who are used to solve the city's rat problem and/or commit criminal activities. But the real purpose of them is to get wrecked by the heroes in case there's no robotic Foot Soldiers around. While NECA put out a great set of Mousers earlier this year, Super7 beat them to the punch. Does this little look familiar? He should, since it's the same Mouser we saw with the wave one Baxter Stockman. Standing around 3 3/8" tall, the Mouser's design is based off the "Wacky Action" figure from the original line, but without all those stickers on it, and since you can't just have one Mouser, this set includes three of them. The colors on all three are the same, including some nice shades of blue accurate to the original toy,...[See More]
Yakko
Animaniacs (Super7) - Ultimates
Rated 4.20 stars by RMaster007
Just last week, Big Bad Toy Store suddenly discounted a ton of Super7 Ultimates across multiple licenses, ranging from TMNT to Power Rangers to Silverhawks. Figures that usually cost $55 became as low as $19. Now is definitely a good time to grab all those figures you've been holding out on, I have, including the last Animaniacs figure I needed. As with the other figures, Yakko gets a solid plastic (I assume it's plastic) head, and the expression matches his siblings. It's okay, but the problem is that it's misshapen, appearing a bit wider than it should be. The head is also a little oversized in comparison to the body, bit more than how it was with Wakko and Dot. The alternate, open-mouth head looks nicer, but it too is a little too big. It also has a graduation cap, a little...[See More]
Biollante (Godzilla vs Biollante)
Godzilla (Super7) - Ultimates
Rated 3.50 stars by RMaster007
Throughout his many films, Godzilla has had a lot of adversaries to go up against, many of which have very cool designs. Not a lot of companies aside from Bandai and Trendmasters go beyond the big G, though, but Super7 joins them in giving equal focus to both him and the various kaiju, including Biollante. Considering how the BioGoji version of Godzilla was the first version of him to make it into "Ultimate" form, it's no surprise the big plant joins him, Most companies do Biollante's second, more monstrous form when doing figures of her, but Super7 chose to do her flower form instead, something that rarely gets made into plastic. Her head isn't anything complicated; it's just a rose with sharp teeth in the middle. It's a good rendition here, and the color of the flower is a bold red,...[See More]
Crasher
Transformers - Legacy - Velocitron Speedia 500 Collection (Hasbro) - Deluxe Class
Rated 4.75 stars by Karl T. Face
Fittingly, the packaging on mine was damaged. I love the recent trend of in-house crossovers. Between this, Bug Bite and those M.A.S.K. vehicles they snuck into the Micromasters, it's a nice low-key sprinkling of fun that I don't have to go all-in on a series for. Anyhoo, Crasher snuck into the Bayverse toyline as a Walmart exclusive, a redeco of Mirage. This update takes the same route, but comes out a lot better. The altmode is fairly nice, sporting clean lines and a smattering of fine detail. No obvious kibble. The guns blend in well, plugging into the predominantly black central section. A misaligned paint app leaves the 01 on the hood a bit crooked, but it kind of fits the character. Transformation is of average complexity, with a few fun twists and some seriously finicky leg...[See More]
Sewer Samurai Leo
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates!
Rated 4.20 stars by RMaster007
After the first wave or so of Ninja Turtles figures, Playmates looked into other ways to do the four brothers and occasionally other characters. Kicking off a plethora of quirky turtle variants was the "Disguised Turtles" series, which gave each of the four brothers a different costume. In Leonardo's case, the level-headed Turtle leader became an honorable samurai. Comparing the original Playmates figure to Super7's newer "Ultimate" version, it can be noted that not much has changed, except for the head. The expression looks better than the original figure, with a less awkward-looking mouth, and the eyes aren't as narrow. He's also wearing a golden samurai helmet that hasn't changed too much from the original, aside from it being more golden than bronze this time around. The newer Leo...[See More]
Grimlock
Transformers (Super7) - Ultimate
Rated 4.60 stars by RMaster007
While characters like Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Megatron are getting the most merch, Grimlock is just as popular, mainly because he's a giant robotic dinosaur. How is that not cool? Recently, Robosen put out an electronic Grimlock that can transform on its own, be controlled with your phone, and even has his original voice actor from the G1 cartoon providing new dialogue. For over $1000, it's too rich for my blood, but there's much cheaper Grimmys out there, such as the Super7 Ultimate. Normally, I wouldn't bring up the box here since it's the same uniform style all figures in the line have, but Grimlock's deserves special mention as it's utterly massive. His package is 13" tall, 14 1/2" long, and 6 5/8" deep, which can make room for it difficult if you plan on keeping it. Everything...[See More]
Elisa Maza
Gargoyles (Neca) - Ultimate
Rated 4.90 stars by RMaster007
The world of Gargoyles isn't just about those winged creatures who are "stone by day, warriors by night," there's also plenty of humans, friend and foe, from the past and present, that associate with them. After doing plenty of gargoyles, NECA has recently gotten to some of the humans, including the Manhattan Clan's ally Elisa Maza. The box art continues to be great for this line, with Elisa's being handled by Djordje Djokovic and Raph Lomotan. It fits her character well, given that she's a detective, doing some investigative work. Like Lexington, her box is more around the size of most ultimate figures than the big Gargoyles, but a little deeper to accompany one of her accessories. Elisa is the first NECA Gargoyles figure I covered that isn't sculpted by Djokovic. Rather, she's...[See More]
Raphael (Mutagen Ooze Glow)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates!
Rated 4.70 stars by RMaster007
One thing that can certainly be said about Super7 is that they loving doing glow-in-the-dark figures. How much so? Their first released TMNT Ultimate was one of them, before the regular version even came out. We've since gotten a few others, including the four turtles themselves in "Mutagen Ooze" variants. They looked cool, but the higher $65 price due to the rising cost of glow material, along with it being Super7-exclusive meaning absurd shipping costs kept me away. Just earlier today, I was able to secure one for a good price at the annual Maryland Toy Expo, and it's my favorite turtle: Raphael. Usually, the glow figure packaging isn't much different from the regular versions outside of different colors and some GITD accents, but that's not the case here. The slip cover is designed...[See More]
Mummy (Color)
Universal Monsters (Neca) - Ultimate Collection
Rated 4.85 stars by RMaster007
NECA's Universal Monsters line has been putting out some great figures, but I'll admit I haven't gotten much of them, mainly because I haven't seen much of the films. I'll make sure to change that, and I recently picked up another figures for my collection. His name is Imhotep, but everyone calls him the Mummy. The packaging is the same as the other monsters, with poster art on the front and figure shots on the back, but it looks good, and there's the usual front flap that reveals a window behind, showing off everything included. There also wasn't a lot of ties to worry about, making the mummy easy to free. The Mummy is the second Boris Karloff-played monster in the line, requiring a lot of make-up to bring the undead to life. He has very dry, somewhat pink skin, fitting for a...[See More]
Creep (40th Anniversary)
Creepshow (Neca) - Ultimate Collection
Rated 4.90 stars by RMaster007
It's Halloween once more, and I've been spending a few of the days leading up to it by watching some horror flicks. If there's one you definitely need to watch around this time, it's Creepshow. The George A. Romero and Stephen King film consists of five eerily entertaining stories, all wrapped up in an aesthetic that makes it look like a comic book come to life. In celebration of the film's 40th anniversary last year, NECA did a figure of its mascot, the Creep. They already did one based off the Shudder series a few years back, but this is what I was really holding out for. As with most NECA movie Ultimates, the Creep's packaging has the Creepshow poster on front, and shots of the figure on the back. It looks pretty good, and there are some comic book-inspired graphics as well, calling...[See More]
