Unicron with Deadend
Transformers - Armada (Hasbro) - Unicron Assortment
Rated 4.00 stars by Karl T. Face
Unicron. The centralizing threat of Transformers: The Movie. A toy that failed to happen twice. A toy we knew damn well would never be made in proper scale, but still. After decades of anticipation, it finally happened. Unfortunately, it happened during the Armada series. Now, Armada wasn't all bad. Play features marred a lot of the already-crude designs, but it was the early aughts. We took what we could get. And what we got here was...okay. I can't fault the sculpt. It's covered in greebles without looking too busy, and most of the details from the movie were carried over almost directly to the new design. The joints are plenty solid; sturdy ratchets and tight hinges, etc. I can't help but feel like the fully articulated fingers were unnecessary, but I can't think what I'd have...[See More]

Simpsons (Super7) - Ultimates
Rated 4.85 stars by RMaster007
Ever since its jump from mere shorts to a half-hour series, The Simpsons has been a merchandising juggernaut. Among the various items are a couple different toylines from companies like Mattel, Playmates, McFarlane, LEGO, and others, and in 2021, Super7 announced their acquisition of the license. The first wave of ULTIMATES for the show were due for release last summer, but as with most Super7 lines, they ended up being out a couple months late. They very recently showed up through Big Bad Toy Store, and Super7 should be shipping out direct orders soon, and I'm all the more excited to finally have one in-hand. The packaging is the standard Super7 style: a brown cardboard box containing the trapezoidal box with slipcover inside. The box is around the same height as the TMNT figures, but a...[See More]

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca) - Secret of the Ooze
Rated 4.90 stars by RMaster007
If there's one thing that makes action figures more fun, it's accessories, and lots of 'em. NECA has put out a couple accessory sets recently, including a follow-up to their TMNT movie accessory set from '21. Covering its sequel, Secret of the Ooze, this set was also a NECA Store-exclusive preorder early last year, so unless you jumped on that, eBay is your best bet for it now. The packaging isn't much different from the first accessory set, being a simple windowless box with photos of everything included on the sides and back. It's not much, but it does the job. On the inside, everything is secured in a plastic tray, no plastic ties or anything, making it all easy to remove and replace. Kicking things off are extra heads for each of the four turtles. Leonardo gets a stern look,...[See More]
Neutrinos (3-Pack)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Multi-Packs
Rated 4.90 stars by RMaster007
I'll be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of the Neutrinos from the TMNT cartoon. Sure, they had cool designs, but their annoying voices and lingo were off-putting to me. Still, they were pretty important in the five-episode pilot season and continued to pop up from time to time, and that's why I wanted them to get the NECA treatment. My wish was granted a few months ago when they became the toon line's first three-pack. Before we get on with this review, I just want to clarify: Zak is the blue one, Dask is the yellow one, and Kala is the green one. Now that that's out of the way, all three figures are sculpted by Paul Harding, who's been doing a lot of Turtle stuff recently. Everyone is really spot-on, from the funky clothes to out-of-this-world hairstyles. I'm impressed by how well Zak's...[See More]

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca) - Secret of the Ooze
Rated 4.95 stars by RMaster007
Go ninja go ninja go! It's been over 30 years since Secret of the Ooze hit theaters, and it served as a pretty fun follow-up to the original TMNT movie. To celebrate its belated anniversary, NECA finally did the four turtles from it, and while they've been hitting Walmarts as two-packs for a good amount of time, they first showed up as a four-pack pre-order exclusively through the NECA Store, showing up last month. I'm glad I went that route, cause I can't find the two-packs to save my life. The box, unlike most four packs, is tall rather than long and bears a nice recreation of the original VHS' cover on the front using the figures. That's actually on a slip cover that can be removed to reveal a window box inside. There's only one plastic tie each for the turtles, and most of the...[See More]
Someone's in the Kitchen with DNA (Troy McClure)
Simpsons (Super7) - ReAction Figures
Rated 4.05 stars by RMaster007
"Hi, I'm Troy McClure. You may remember me from such toy lines as World of Springfield, and… wait, that's it?" The first wave of Super7's Simpsons Ultimates is showing up in the States any day time, and I can't wait. Until they drop, however, Super7 in the meantime put out some ReAction figures as an appetizer. They kicked it off with a wave of McBain figures, and now Troy McClure is getting the treatment, with three figures based off his various roles in-show. This particular variant comes from "Someone's in the Kitchen with DNA," which itself originates from season 9's "Lisa the Simpson." ReAction card art ranges from "mildly attractive" to "absolutely stunning," and this one belongs in the former category. It has specific art depicting Troy in the various outfits he wears in this...[See More]

Ren and Stimpy (Super7) - Ultimates
Rated 4.60 stars by RMaster007
Everyone knows you can't have Ren without Stimpy, so here's his better half. Stimpy's box is a lot like Ren's; no slip cover, easy to open and replace everything inside, and bigger than you'd expect from Ultimates. Stimpy gets a red box with all sorts of gunk around the window, I assume this is supposed to represent his ear or something. The packaging definitely fits with the show's gross nature, but its size can make finding a spot for it a little difficult, especially when you already have a ton of figures like me. Standing roughly 6“ tall, Stimpy is a pretty chunky figure, but not a heavy one. His body is mostly hollow, which isn't what you'd expect a figure at a premium price point to be like, but to me, he actually feels pretty nice in-hand. The sculpt is recognizably Stimpy, and...[See More]

Ren and Stimpy (Super7) - Ultimates
Rated 4.55 stars by RMaster007
As far I can remember, the first I've heard of Super7 was when I found out they were doing new Ren and Stimpy figures. They caught my eye and I took interest, but I never bothered to pre-order, and ended up missing out. So when Super7 announced last year that they'd be getting a re-release, I was hyped. Now with all the Ninja Turtles, Transformers, and everything else, it fills me with joy to finally add the duo to my collection. Ren's packaging differs from a regular Ultimate figure in two ways. For starters, there's no slip cover; just a plain window box, designed to look like Ren's hideously unhygienic mouth. Secondly, it's huge. It practically dwarfs what most of the TMNT line comes in. There's no character bio on the back; just the show's logo. The packaging is still as...[See More]

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Mirage Comics (Neca) - Basic Series
Rated 4.80 stars by RMaster007
It's been over ten years since NECA's original Mirage TMNT line, and last year saw its return with plenty of characters never done during the original run of figures, such as the Utrom, which was to the original comics what the Krang are to the franchise in general, except not evil. The Utroms hid themselves in androids resembling humans, and this is what is underneath the faux skin and clothes. Sculpted by Brodie Perkins and Josh Sutton, the mechanical details are carried over well into plastic. The skull-like head is complemented by an extra portrait that's suffered battle damage: the right eye is dangling out, and a chunk of the head has been ripped over to reveal the wires underneath. The paint work is nice, with clean black lines, and some yellow outside the eyes to create a glowing...[See More]
Armaggon
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Turtles in Time (Neca) - Exclusives
Rated 4.80 stars by RMaster007
Well, this is it, after over a year, we finally got the last of the TMNT Lootcrates. We were supposed to get all of them in the course of a few months last year, but something happened to delay all but the first of them. This was supposed to be the second crate, but for reasons unknown, it ended up being the last one out. Better late than never, I suppose. The last video game TMNT crate was entirely Turtles in Time-based, but this one adds in a bit of Tournament Fighters love, starting with the included figure: Armaggon. The packaging for him is heavily reminiscent of the SNES box for the original game, with the sides recreating the artwork using figures. The ESRB ratings box, SNES-styled NECA logo, and a "seal of approval" are included here to really make it feel like an old video game...[See More]
