Rasputin and Genghis Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Multi-Packs Rated 4.85 stars by RMaster007 My turtle collection is ever-growing, and I got the latest addition here, Rasputin the Mad Frog and Genghis Frog by NECA. I finally managed to find this two-pack yesterday, and now it's review time.
The packaging is the same style like every other two-pack, but they went with a swamp backdrop for inside the box, which fits the characters well. The Punk Frogs all looked the same on the show, with only their apparel being different, so it's no surprise these two share the same sculpt. Both frogs are accurate to their on-screen appearance, though their torsos are taller than in-show, but that's not a big deal. One thing definitely worth noting here is that there's two different heads for both frogs, a neutral expression and a scared one. I love the scared head because it's perfect for...[See More]
Zarax and Zork Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Multi-Packs Rated 4.65 stars by RMaster007 Another day, another review, and no surprise that it’s from NECA’s TMNT line. This review is for the Triceratons Zarax and Zork. While the Triceratons were introduced pretty early on in the Mirage comics, it wasn’t until season 7 that they appeared in the original show, and it’s the same episode with Donatello as Batma- er… the “Dark Turtle”. NECA is doing a Dark Turtle for the new LootCrate series, which I already ordered, but at least for now I have the other key part of the classic episode. I’ve had these figures for quite a while now, and it took me until now to review them.
Both figures share most of the same parts, such as the arms, chest, tail, and legs. The only parts different on both are the heads, armor, and crotch area. The reuse – which comes from the Triceraton Infantryman...[See More]
Accessory Set Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca) - Basic Series Rated 5.00 stars by RMaster007 NECA sure likes doing accessory packs, even though they don't do them often. But still, they put in some of the most memorable aspects of the properties they're relating to - Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Alien 3 - to make them special. The latest one is the NECA Store-exclusive Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie pack. This went up for pre-order last year in the summer, and now everyone who ordered them are getting theirs, including me.
First off, the box for this is BIG - about 12" across and 11 1/2" tall. The box is adorned with the classic poster art of the turtles peeking out of the sewer on the front, and photos of the new accessories on the back. It's easy to open, too. Just remove the tape on the side and pull out the plastic tray with everything inside....[See More]
Slash and Leatherhead Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Multi-Packs Rated 4.30 stars by RMaster007 NECA's really been upping their game with TMNT recently, with the new LootCrate series, upcoming movie April, and plenty of preorders. Speaking of which, this month finally sees the shipment of much-awaited preordered products, including the movie accessory pack, cartoon diorama, and the Slash/Leatherhead two-pack. The last one isn't new, having shown up at Target first, but the NECA Store offered another chance to get them. I got them and the accessory pack, which I'll be reviewing soon, but for now, time for the rogues to get the spotlight.
The packaging is just like the others, so let's just move onto the figures, starting with Slash. Comparing him to the VG Slash I already own, it's not hard to tell that there's some reuse with the toon one, mainly the shell, neck, and feet. There's...[See More]
King Kong King Kong (Neca) - Basic Series Rated 5.00 stars by RMaster007 Last year was the last one NECA had with the Godzilla license, but when one kaiju leaves, another one shows up, and it’s King Kong. The giant ape long predated the giant lizard by around 20 years, and he’s received a lot of merchandise. We got the regular Kong last year, and an “illustrated” re-paint showed up earlier this year. I got both of them, so why not kill two birds with one stone and review both of them?
The packaging for both figures share the same idea, with photos of the figure all around. The aesthetic is different for both, however. The regular release has a jungle theme, and the illustrated version is more of a reddish style without the jungle theme. Both boxes are collector-friendly and easy to open, with a few twist/plastic ties you need to cut off.
Both figures share...[See More]
Sam Sam & Max (Boss Fight Studio) - Basic Series Rated 4.90 stars by RMaster007 If you've ever heard of Sam & Max, you might know them from their series of point-and-click games, the short-lived animated series, or the original comic book series that spawned the duo. Even if you hadn't heard of them, you probably heard of Boss Fight Studios, who acquired the license to the characters about more than a year ago. The figures of the duo have been out for a while now, and are available through a few comic stores and online retailers. I just got Sam recently, so let's take a look at him.
The figure comes packed in a window box with hanger, and it's adorned with drawings of the duo all around, including a comic on the back that sums up just how nuts their adventures are. The box is also easy to open and collector friendly as well, and everything is held in with a plastic...[See More]
Ibuki Street Fighter IV (Play Arts Kai) - Basic Series Rated 4.45 stars by RMaster007 I'll be honest, I haven't really played Street Fighter all that much. In fact, the only one I ever really played was Street Fighter II. However, that hasn't stopped me from getting the NECA Chun-Li earlier this year, and it didn't stop me from buying another SF figure earlier this month. This time, it's Ibuki from Square Enix's Play Arts Kai line, based off of her appearance in SFIV.
The box is pretty simple in design, with not too much special things about it, but the graphics they used are quite attractive. It's also collector-friendly as well, and it's not too hard to get everything out of it and back in at a later time.
Regarding the figure itself, the sculpt looks great and is plenty accurate to her appearance in-game. There's two head sculpts included with her, one with a closed...[See More]
Foot Soldier Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Turtles in Time (Neca) - Basic Series Rated 4.70 stars by RMaster007 Aside from the classic cartoon and movies, there's one other adaption of TMNT NECA has covered: the classic Konami beat-em-ups. They did the original game years ago with two SDCC-exclusive four-packs, but last year saw them doing the more well-known Turtles on Time. We got two waves of figures last year, but it seems like the video game figures will be taking a break after two more releases next month in favor of Mirage figures, but restocks of the initial figures seem to be on the way as well. Anyways, I'm going to cover my favorite in the line so far, the Foot Soldier.
The packaging is a window box with graphics similar to the original arcade cabinet, with a shot of the figure on the back. It's simple but at the same time very nice looking, not to mention collector-friendly. Once you...[See More]
Howling Wolfinica Resurrection of Monstress (Yellow Submarine) - Basic Series Rated 4.00 stars by Karl T. Face Werewolves are fun. Rock music is fun. Do these great tastes taste great together? I say yes.
The purple version appeals to me more than the more realistic brown, for whatever reason. Maybe the cartoonish nature of a punk rock lycanthrope toy (oddly, not the only one I own) demands an outrageous color scheme. Maybe my love for the colorful world of Darkstalkers is showing, or it's just closer to the blue of the original art. Whatever the reason, here we are.
I'd have preferred a less neutral expression, and she doesn't hold her guitar worth a damn. But the accessories and base are so good, it almost doesn't matter.
The stage floor and large speaker are augmented by two smaller speakers and an amp, to be placed however you like. One of the rats fits neatly into a hole in the floor. A...[See More]
Franken Steela Resurrection of Monstress (Yellow Submarine) - Basic Series Rated 4.00 stars by Karl T. Face As a fan of Nirasawa's art style, I have to say, nobody captures it quite like Yellow Submarine. And as Mindless Self-Indulgence warned us, Frankenstein girls will indeed seem strangely sexy.
This one's a bit of a sore point with me, in that I would have vastly preferred the blue version, with its more realistic colors. But that's apparently hard to find, so here we are.
I can't complain too much, really. The operating table is hefty and substantial, making it feel like a pretty good value overall. The joints in are good and solid, even after 20 years. Paint is tight. The glaring neon accessories are the main reason I wanted the blue version; any detail on them gets swallowed up. A paint wash would have helped.
That said, I can't argue with that amazing reclining table, nor the handful...[See More]
