Creature Gillealla Resurrection of Monstress (Yellow Submarine) - Basic Series Rated 4.00 stars by Karl T. Face I'm a sucker for the Gillman. Fish people in general, really. And one thing I don't see very often, at least in plastic form, is female fish folk. So Gillie here was an easy decision. But does she stack up?
In a word, mostly. Once you get past the idea that you're basically buying a sexy monster girl statue, it goes down easier. The whole line has a 3-joint standard, neck and shoulders. This one bucks the trend with ankle hinges, which allow for standing or floating poses, but also muck up an otherwise killer sculpt.
The real draw, as is typical of this line, is the sheer volume of accessories, allowing for lots of display options. She can (sort of) hold her knife or wear it, the skeleton fish can be tucked into various gaps, the breathing apparatus looks good on her (not making much...[See More]
Chun-Li Street Fighter 4 (Neca) - Round 2 Rated 4.75 stars by RMaster007 Over the years, Street Fighter has received a lot of figures, with Storm being the current license holder. Their figures, while great, are pretty pricey (but I guess that can go for any imported collectible), and I have to get my hands on one. Back around the time SFIV got released, NECA grabbed the license for their "Player Select" label and put out two waves of figures including some repaints. The authentic figures are hard to find nowadays, but I got lucky at my local toy store earlier this year with Chun-Li.
The packaging is a simple clamshell with nice graphics, with shots of the figure on the side and some general info about the character on the back. It's not a bio but rather information such as country of origin, birthday, height and weight, and interests.
Once out of the box,...[See More]
Batman (Black Cape) DC Multiverse (McFarlane) - Batman the Animated Series Rated 4.00 stars by RMaster007 We've gotten a lot of DC collectibles throughout the years, and while DC Direct, their figure division, has closed it doors the previous year, McFarlane Toys took up the license before that happened in the same year, and we've gotten tons of figures already from many different adaptions of the heroes and villains. Most of the figures are from the many comics over the years, but we've gotten a few other adaptions in the mix as well, such as the animated series. The animated version of Batman is one of the first ones released in the line, and he's pretty common.
The box is simple and very collector-friendly. All you have to do is cut some tape and plastic ties and you can get the figure out easily, then put it back in later if you want to. The black and blue color scheme fits, and the...[See More]
Rocksteady (Bunny Suit) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Basic Series Rated 4.35 stars by RMaster007 I already reviewed one of the TMNT Lootcrate figures, now onto the next one. The cartoon crate came with a new Rocksteady figure in the bunny suit from "The Turtles and the Hare", which involved the turtles traveling to a fairy tale dimension to get the help of Hokum Hare to stop Shredder's latest plot, and the dimwits Bebop and Rocksteady got dolled up in Easter-appropriate outfits for this plan. While Rocksteady came with the crate, Bebop could only be obtained if you pre-paid for all three crates at the same time instead of paying individually when each on is shipped.
The package uses the same design as the toon two-packs at Target, and it's very collector-friendly. And bonus, all of the previously released figures are listed on the back of the box.
Being a variant of Rocksteady,...[See More]
Shell Shock Turtle Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Turtles in Time (Neca) - Exclusives Rated 4.40 stars by RMaster007 Thought the only ways to get NECA's TMNT figures were through Target, Walmart, and comic/speciality stores? Think again. Last year saw a good amount of new TMNT Lootcrates with NECA providing an exclusive figure in each one, and we got four of those figures. A repaint of the SDCC comic Shredder in the Mirage crate, a "Shell Shocked" skeletal Turtle in the arcade crate, a bunny Rocksteady in the cartoon crate, and a bonus bunny Bebop if you pre-paid for all three crates at once. I didn't do that plan so I don't have a Bebop, and my Mirage Shredder broke an arm shortly after opening him and I need a new one, but I got the turtle and Rocksteady, and I'll be reviewing the former now.
The packaging uses the same design cues as the Turtles in Time figures, though it's slimmer than what we see...[See More]
Bebop Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates! Rated 4.70 stars by RMaster007 The second wave of TMNT Ultimates has been pretty great so far. Leonardo was great, Mutagen Man wasn't super interesting but still neat, and Shredder is my favorite. Now time to close things off with the punk warthog, Bebop.
Comparing him to the original Playmates figure, a lot of Bebop's details have been updated. The head's improved greatly, with more pointy ears, a gray earring instead of a yellow one, and a bit less warts. The pink face is replicated here, but there's also a head that doesn't have that paint on it, in case you prefer that look. Moving downward, his back is a bit straighter, and the coat is updated, with a zipper and more visible pins thanks to the paint. The turtle skeleton shoulder pads are sculpted onto the coat instead of the arms. The necklace has a little human...[See More]
Shredder Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates! Rated 5.00 stars by RMaster007 Super7's TMNT Ultimates line is great, and the first wave's Foot Soldier was no exception. Of course, you can have as many Foot Soldiers as you want, but you still need a Shredder to order them around, and the second wave was the one that provided him.
The packaging is just like what Leo and Mutagen Man have, but the slip cover is purple instead of green to show you that Shredhead here is a bad guy. Two plastic trays containing the figure and accessories are here, and everything is easy to get out like usual.
The Four Horsemen's take on the original Shredder figure is a lot better than his 80s counterpart. No more weird squatting stance or eyebrows painted on the head, though there's an alternate head included here that does have the old look. Standing about 6 7/8" tall, Shredder is...[See More]
Mutagen Man Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates! Rated 4.65 stars by RMaster007 During the original TMNT line, Playmates relied on weirdness for the line. The crazier they looked or the goofier the ideas, the better. Combine that with greatly detailed sculpts for a line made in the late 80s-early 90s and you got something. Well, that's just my thoughts, but getting one of the weirder characters, Mutagen Man, who was a bunch of organs in a big glass container, in Super7's ULTIMATES line is a dream come true for many.
Standing at about 7" tall, Super7's take on the character is just like the original, but bigger and more articulated. I'm talking swivel/hinge joints at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles, and they all move well with barely any restriction. The decaying skin and exposed muscle tone are present here, and it looks just as grotesque as...[See More]
Leonardo Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates! Rated 4.75 stars by RMaster007 When Super7 announced a new line of 7" scale TMNT figures, everyone was in on it. The first wave did very well, enough to issue re-releases with recolored weapon racks earlier this month. Though prior to that, the second wave, consisting of Leonardo, Shredder, Bebop, and Mutagen Man, shipped out from the company back in December, but it wasn't until late January this year that BBTS started shipping them out as well. I pre-ordered the whole second wave from them, and I'm starting my reviews of it with Leonardo.
The packaging is just like with the previous wave, window box with bio lifted from the Playmates figure on the back, and a slip cover with manhole cover on the front and logo on the back. Everything is easy to open and get out, just some tape and twist ties to cut off.
It's no...[See More]
Rat King vs. Vernon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Multi-Packs Rated 4.85 stars by RMaster007 NECA's TMNT line has been full of surprises, with the new Lootcrate series up for sale and plenty of more figures coming soon to retailers, including the return of their Mirage figures that started the line. And even better is that the Targets in my state are finally bothering to stock the cartoon two-packs. The most recent two-pack release contains the Rat King, a recurring villain on the show, and quite unexpectedly, Vernon, the cowardly Channel 6 cameraman who's always trying to one-up April.
The box is just like what we've seen with previous two-packs, but they did a nice job with the artwork on the front. Rat King looks menacing while Vernon is appropriately terrified. Everything is held in place with plastic ties, but the accessories are kept in plastic with plastic trays, with the...[See More]
