Mighty Metalhead Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Basic Series Rated 4.85 stars by RMaster007 I've mentioned it multiple times before, but last year was great for TMNT fans thanks to all the new figures by NECA. Those who grew up with the original Saturday morning cartoon were blessed with plenty of Target-exclusive figures, though not so much with the distribution of them. Thankfully, this year is showing an improvement in distribution, and finding them has gotten a lot easier, at least for me it seems.
One of the better releases last year was the first "ultimate" in the TMNT line, which is Metalhead. Last year around the summer, he was made available as a pre-order for a short time on the NECA store, and they all shipped out last month. He was $30 both in-store and online.
The packaging on Metalhead here may be the best I've ever seen on a NECA figure: it's based off of the...[See More]
Alien Queen (with Deadly Chest-Hatchling) Aliens (Kenner) - Series 1 Rated 4.00 stars by HAYL1311 The blister version of the Alien Queen has got to be one of the coolest fiigures in the 90s Kenner toyline.
One of its main features is its amazing paintjob, which I wish other aliens had. My version is glossy black with some metallic gray accents that really bring the sculpted details to life.
Furthermore, it's action features are really fun. It can extend its inner jaw by squeezing a soft rubbery section located in the lower part of its head, its tail-whipping action is surprisingly satisfying to use, requiring you to press a conveniently-placed button on its left leg, and it even comes with an accessory in the form of a royal chest burster that clearly resembles a queen instead of a drone.
On the other hand, this particular version of the queen is not "movie accurate", a fact that...[See More]
Tokka & Rahzar (Neca Store) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca) - Secret of the Ooze Rated 5.00 stars by RMaster007 Last year was definitely a great one for NECA with all the new figures and licenses, but the best license to come out of them was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They covered the original cartoon that introduced many to the franchise, the 1990 movie, and even the fan-favorite video game Turtles in Time. We got many great figures, and the best ones of them are Tokka and Rahzar.
The two were introduced in Secret of the Ooze, the sequel to the original movie, as New Line's answer to Bebop and Rocksteady. The two became popular pretty quickly and have appeared in other adaptions of TMNT since. Along with Super Shredder, these two were the first SOTO figures to come out of NECA.
T&R's release was special, and that means they were released as pre-orders on NECA's online store last summer, and...[See More]
Raphael Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates! Rated 5.00 stars by RMaster007 When Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premiered back in 2018, it kickstarted a new line of figures from Playmates. However, declining sales of figures led to not only the end of the new figures, but the show as well. But with the new movie coming out this year, we may see more, but for now, they've been re-releasing their older figures in boxsets, and it's really something that appeals to the fans who grew up with the OG line.
Super7 has been doing something different, though. They've been taking the older figures and giving them a modern day upgrade. With updated designs, more articulation, and a lot more, it's something fans both old and new can enjoy. I already reviewed the Foot Soldier, and now onto the sole Ninja Turtle of the first wave: Raphael. Like the previous figure I...[See More]
Splinter vs. Baxter Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Multi-Packs Rated 4.80 stars by RMaster007 Last year has been a good year for NECA, especially with the TMNT license. Fans were presented with plenty of great figures, and towards the end, one of the two-packs I was most hyped for came out, and said set is Splinter and Baxter Stockman.
The distribution on the Target-exclusive figures has definitely improved, and now fans are able to get more much more easily, with some stores getting like TEN of the Ultimate Krangs and Splinter/Baxter two-packs each. This set shouldn't be too hard to find, and it'll cost the standard price of $52.
Packaging:
This two-pack uses the standard packaging as the other ones, which is a window box with character artwork on the front and photos of the figures on the sides and back. It's nice and all, but I wish there were character-accurate descriptions...[See More]
Quartz Total Chaos (McFarlane) - Series 2 Rated 4.00 stars by Karl T. Face Man, I missed this thing. Antique malls FTW!
Rock monsters are a little samey to me. Quartz bucks that trend by being a rock monster with cyberware. To address the elephant in the room (pipe down, Poacher, you'll get your turn), he does lack the rock chunks shown with the prototype. I don't personally miss them; they just look like bits of his own body, and if he was meant to throw them with his spring-action waist, the remarkably weak spring renders that moot anyway. We do get an alternate hand (fist) for the right side, at least.
What gets me is the construction. Being made entirely of clear PVC rather than ABS grants it significant durability, and after 20+ years, even the balljoint shoulders are showing no stress fractures whatsoever. Funko could take a lesson here.
Shoulders aside,...[See More]
Super Shredder Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 1990 Movie (Neca) - Secret of the Ooze Rated 4.90 stars by RMaster007 30 years ago, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made their theatrical debut, and it was so successful that the crew went right to work on the sequel, Secret of the Ooze, and while it wasn't as positively received as the first movie, it still has quite a lot of fans.
In the film's climax, Shredder, powered up by mutagen, faced off against the Turtles. However, his plan to take them out, collapsing a pier on them all, didn't work out for him, and he died in about a minute. Despite his short screentime, the super-powered Shredder got a lot of attention.
Years later, NECA has produced a new figure of "Super" Shredder. As with the first movie two-packs released earlier this year, this figure is a Walmart exclusive, but that unfortunately made him hard to get. Thankfully, around the time NECA...[See More]
Foot Soldier Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates! Rated 5.00 stars by RMaster007 While NECA has been doing quite a lot of good with the TMNT license, Super7 has also been handling the line well this year. Their ReAction figures are cool, but their ultimates are what everyone really wants. The first wave started shipping out back in September, and I managed to pre-order one. In this case, it's the Foot Soldier, one of Shredder's robotic henchmen.
I pre-ordered the figure from Big Bad Toy Store when it was still up for $45, but it doesn't look like they'll get any extra in stock, so you'll have to look for the first wave at other retailers.
PACKAGING
The packaging is a big window box with a brick texture and a bio on the back, all inside a purple slip cover with a manhole cover on it. If you've seen my review for the SDCC-exclusive Baxter, you'll know what I'm...[See More]
Traag and Granitor Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Multi-Packs Rated 4.30 stars by RMaster007 While NECA has put out plenty of figures this year, one of their most notable lines is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line. They've been in full force with the half-shell heroes this year, specifically their license as it relates to the original cartoon. There's been plenty of toon releases this year, but being Target exclusives has made them hard to find, and scalpers tend to buy them up to sell for twice as much.
Fortunately, NECA and Target have been working to make distribution go smoother, and I've noticed some products are easier to get. Back around September-October, I finally managed to score a two-pack right from Target's website: General Traag and Granitor.
The two were put out back around September, and it may be difficult to find one in Target, but if you manage to find...[See More]
Yoda Star Wars - Empire Strikes Back (Kenner) - Basic Series Rated 5.00 stars by Deaditor I think for the time he came out, this is a PERFECT Yoda. I love the character and I would have been a happy child in the 80s if I had him. He has 5 POA which is not an issue for a figure of his stature as it compliments him, he has nice detail, is instantly recognisable, has a soft goods robe and a belt with details like the illuminator, he gets from Luke's supplies, painted with a nice Silver, his walking stick which he holds well meaning it's hard to lose and of course the snake which is a nice touch. Yoda's right hand is sculpted in a way that looks like he is using the force to lift Luke's X-Wing out of the Dagobah Swamp. This figure is really good and captures the goofiness in Yoda's face when Luke first meets him a bit more than the aged wise Jedi Master he reveals himself to be,...[See More]
