Luke Skywalker (Bespin Fatigues)
Star Wars - Empire Strikes Back (Kenner) - Basic Series
Rated 3.00 stars by Deaditor
A really nicely detailed figure with really impressive sculpting on his legs and waist with the utility belt showing the Lightsaber and holster and the light brown or tan hair suits Luke more realistically than the cartoon like yellow hair in my opinion. I believe they dropped this colour with Jedi as he seems to only have light brown hair in the ROTJ line. What let's this figure down is not the yellow Lightsaber(which yes we know Luke had a blue one and they continued their mistake from the original STAR WARS figure of Luke, most likely due to the concept art of Luke with a Yellow saber or a desire to differentiate Luke from Obi-Wan perhaps?), the issue is the hands. Luke comes with a blaster and a saber and yet he can only really hold the saber in his left hand and the blaster in the...[See More]
Darth Vader
Star Wars (Kenner) - Basic Series
Rated 4.50 stars by Deaditor
This first figure of the Dark Lord of the Sith was used throughout Kenner's Star Wars line and it's nostalgia factor might influence a lot of collector's opinions and some might think a modern fan (such as myself who grew up in the late 90s) would not be a fan of this model but in fact I think it's a perfect start to a promising future and decent first attempt that was perfect for the era he was released in. I believe the choice of giving him a trench coat instead of a cloak or cape was a stylistic choice based on the robe Vader wears over his chest guard instead of under as he does in other films, so one could treat this as his robe and then add a cloak over, but it still looks great as it is. I've made my own version out of bluetac as a kid and own 2 as an adult and I think this Vader...[See More]
Marty McFly (1985 Version)
Back to the Future (Neca) - Ultimate Collection
Rated 4.50 stars by RMaster007
2020 has been all sorts of crazy. Wildfires, COVID, protests against police brutality, and of course, the election. While this year makes us wish we could go back in time, one positive is that plenty of toy companies are in full force, especially NECA, who announced earlier this year that they got the license to Back to the Future in celebration of the original film's 35th anniversary. Some new ultimate figures are hitting stores now, including Marty McFly from both part I and II, and the bully Biff Tannen, and a Target-exclusive "Tales from Space" Marty as well. Here, I'll be looking at the part I Marty. All of these figures cost about $30 each at most stores, and shouldn't be too hard to find. PACKAGING (Unlike my previous reviews, I won't be doing scores for each category) The...[See More]
Emily & Victor (Coffin Set)
Corpse Bride (Jun Planning) - 16" Scale Deluxe Sets
Rated 5.00 stars by essiewik
It has been my dream to own these for so many years and finally 2013 I found them. The movie is one of my favorites and the dolls looks almost exactly like in the movie. The colors are a bit different and I accidentally broke Emilys skeletal leg of once so she only has one leg lol. BUT aside from all that they are perfect!!!...[See More]
Ghost Face
Scream (Neca) - Clothed Retro
Rated 4.00 stars by RMaster007
There's a lot of recognizable slasher flick characters. Freddy Kruger, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, etc. But one of the more "modern" slashers is Ghostface, the main villain of the Scream series. In addition to being a typical Halloween mask, Ghostface is a horror icon. Back in 2014, NECA, who loves horror films, made a "retro" Ghostface in an 8" scale and a cloth outfit. This year, NECA got the rights to Ghostface again, but not the Scream franchise itself. In addition to an ultimate Ghostface coming out in November, NECA has just put out a new retro one. He's hitting various retailers and online stores now, including Target, and he usually retails for around $31-35. Packaging - 5/5 Usually when doing clothed figures, NECA either goes with a box or a resealable clamshell, and here...[See More]
Michelangelo
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Turtles in Time (Neca) - Basic Series
Rated 5.00 stars by moviemaniacx
NECA continues to kill it with the TMNT franchise, giving us totally tubular Turtles In Time figures complete with hoverboards and stands. Michelangelo comes with his trademark nunchucks and a set of alternate hands. The coolest accessory is his weapon effect attachment that makes it look like he's twirling one of the nunchucks. Mikey is painted with that nifty pixelated look in bright colors that pop. The sculpt is very good though the scale looks closer to 6" than NECA's usual 7" scale. Not a huge deal since the line is consistent and the hoverboards make them taller. Still an aces figure. Righteous!...[See More]
Billy Brennan & Pteranodon
Jurassic Park III (Hasbro) - Humans
Rated 3.00 stars by iceIceBa
Billy Brennan is a decent figure. He looks a good amount like his movie counterpart and is nicely detailed with a decent paint job. With that said however, the figures annoying pose and weird Hang-glider bog down the figure a little bit. With the Hang-glider not only not being movie accurate, but also just looking stupid when attached to the figure. The Pteranodon hatchling meanwhile is pretty neat. Having a cool paint job alongside some neatly designed feet that can cling on to Billy or his Hang-glider. Overall, this is a solid set. Billy’s a flawed but overall decent human figure. Whilst his Hang-glider leaves a lot to be desired and the Pteranodon hatchling is pretty cool....[See More]
Dr. Alan Grant & Velociraptor
Jurassic Park III (Hasbro) - Humans
Rated 2.00 stars by iceIceBa
Alan Grant himself is a pretty lousy figure. He looks nothing like Sam Neil, nor is his outfit at all movie accurate. His pose also severely limits the figures poseability, playability, and stability. Though to give credit where credit is due, the tears and general color scheme on Alan Grant’s pants do look pretty nice. Alan Grant’s weapon is also pretty disappointing, its far to big and cumbersome for Alan Grant to hold without trouble, and otherwise its just not a very affective weapon. Really, the biggest interest of the set is no doubt the Velociraptor hatchling, which to its credit has a pretty neat paint job. Though there’s not much else to be said about it. Overall, this set is pretty lackluster. Alan Grant and his weapon are quite flawed and leave a lot to be desired....[See More]
Movie Star Don
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Playmates) - Movie Star Turtles
Rated 4.30 stars by RMaster007
In 1990, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hit the big screen in their first movie, and it proved to be very popular with fans. It then received two more, less popular sequels. But I'm not here to ramble on about a movie series... Many years before NECA did their own take on the movie turtles, Playmates Toys, the main men behind the TMNT toy line, did a series of "Movie Star Turtles", which took inspiration from the first two films. I grabbed Donatello in this style a while back from a toy store for $50. I know, pretty high price, but old toys like these tend to go up in value. Packaging - 4.5/5 This figure shares the same type of cardback packaging as other figures in the line, but with more of a movie theme. Case in point, the front of the card has a couple screenshots from Secret of...[See More]
Jason Voorhees
Freddy vs. Jason (Neca) - Ultimate Collection
Rated 5.00 stars by moviemaniacx
For my 20th review, I choose one of my favorite iterations of Jason Voorhees from 2003's Freddy vs. Jason. The movie is as awesome as it sounds. This version of Jason is massive, recreating Ken Kirzinger's imposing frame and look perfectly and the paint job is aces. However, the best stuff is the accessories. Along with a creepy teddy bear we get two machetes (one bloody), two masks (including a wicked cool bloody variant) and an absolutely gnarly flame effect to recreate the cornfield slaughter from the movie. I have him posed with Freddy from Nightmare 2 with the flame and Pinhead and they all look perfect together. I highly recommend this one - he might be my favorite out of all of NECA's Ultimate Jasons....[See More]
