Jack Frost
McFarlane's Twisted Christmas (McFarlane) - Basic Series
Rated 5.00 stars by moviemaniacx
McFarlane has had a lot of missteps while producing early figures but he also put out some truly unique ones, like Jack Frost here. A hulking, icy frost giant with dead trees growing out of his back as he towers over a small mountain village with an enormous tree-like club. The design is wild and the paint is colorful, a nice application of whites, blues and grays to bring out that frozen look. While the scale is off compared to the rest of the Twisted Christmas line, he still looks pretty wild next to the grotesque Killer Snowman....[See More]

Godzilla (Neca) - King of the Monsters
Rated 4.50 stars by moviemaniacx
An incredible paint job really makes this Target Exclusive worth the double-dip. The colors they used are a vibrant mixture of reds, oranges and yellows that are slightly reflective and really catch the light nicely. The sculpt is the same as the Atomic Blast version but that's fine; a new one wasn't needed. The only reason this doesn't get a perfect 5.0 is because it doesn't come with the atomic blast accessory that the original does. Other than that, this figure is well worth it because it immortalizes my favorite scene from 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters....[See More]

Bioshock Infinite (Neca) - Basic Series
Rated 5.00 stars by moviemaniacx
A wild and creepy figure from the awesome video game. The sculpt is perfect and the paint job is on point. The mouthpiece can be opened and closed by rotating the ear horns which is a nice hidden touch and NECA provides no instructions whatsoever....[See More]

Predators (Neca) - Series 9
Rated 5.00 stars by moviemaniacx
Predator was a childhood favorite and remains one of my favorite films today. Out of all the Dutch figures NECA has put out, this one is still my favorite. The scene is iconic and the figure blends right in with my Alien/Predator display, torch held high ready to declare WAR! The sculpt is awesome with muddy pockmarks and leafy chunks along the torso. Dutch comes packin’ with his branch bow, three regular arrows, one grenade arrow, knife spear, grenade spear and gunpowder pouch. The final, and coolest, accessory is the aforementioned torch, precisely crafted and brightly painted....[See More]

Dead Space 2 (Neca) - Basic Series
Rated 4.00 stars by moviemaniacx
As a huge fan of Dead Space, this figure gets points for merely existing. The Dead Space series has long been forgotten so to have it immortalized in plastic (along with Isaac Clarke) is an amazing treat. That being said the figure is cool but leaves a lot to be desired. It’s rather flimsy and lacks a base, which is a damn shame. A grotesque, infected metal base would really make the figure pop. Regardless this is a wild figure that fits right in with any The Thing display....[See More]
Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street 2)
A Nightmare on Elm Street (Neca) - Ultimate Collection
Rated 5.00 stars by moviemaniacx
While Freddy's Revenge is one of the worst of the NOES series, this figure is aces. It has Freddy in a threatening pose with a magnetic hell flame that attaches to his back. I have him set up with the Freddy vs Jason flaming machete Jason and it looks incredible. Additionally, he comes with two alternate heads and two nightmare dogs who are weird and creepy. A great sculpt and likeness of Robert Englund plus an excellent paint job. NECA cannot be topped right now....[See More]

Star Trek - Enterprise (Diamond Select) - Broken Bow Deluxe
Rated 3.50 stars by mechhead
If you've read my reviews of the other two pieces in this wave then you already know just about what I have to say on this one. It really is more of the same. A repack figure from the "Basic" Broken Bow line and a bridge piece that although great, is the exact same piece as the T'Pol set. I believe this was the first deluxe set to be produced, simply because the science section is identical even down to the sound chip used in this base. While I love the sculpt details, paint, railing and floor design, the sounds are a bit muddied and in my opinion, just not necessary since they don't have sound bites from the actors who manned the stations represented. It was an outstanding concept and had great potential but because of DST's cost cutting management and greed, the entire line suffered and...[See More]

Star Trek - Enterprise (Diamond Select) - Broken Bow Deluxe
Rated 3.50 stars by mechhead
Like the other figures in this wave, this is a strait repack of the "Basic" Broken Bow figure (minus the extra personal accessories). The Captains Chair is great. I love the idea behind this bridge build pack in. The chair looks just as it should and is in perfect scale for the figure. The only thing that surprised me is that the sound effects comes from the base, just like the other bridge sections, not the chair itself. It would have been nice to have the sounds and some light effects come from the chair like the other Captains Chairs produced. However, given the fact that you get more than just a chair, I guess it is ok because you have connectivity with the floor sections of the other sets and a back rail for someone (Phlox or Shran) to possibly lean against. All the sculpts and paint...[See More]

Now Playing (SOTA) - Series 2
Rated 5.00 stars by moviemaniacx
SOTA really hit their stride with Series 2 of their Now Playing line. Here Imhotep sits upon a gorgeously detailed sandy base that features scarabs erupting from it. The scarabs were always one of the creepy-crawliest parts of the Mummy movies and to have them recreated in plastic is personally amazing. The sculpt itself is great but doesn’t have enough holes in his decaying body as one would like. He comes with a mini spear-wielding Pygmy mummy figure who joins him in battle upon his base. Absolutely badass!...[See More]

Ghostbusters (Diamond Select) - Series 5
Rated 4.50 stars by moviemaniacx
I’ve loved this ghost ever since it terrified me as a kid. The sculpt is superb and the stack of books (that no one would stack like this) is the perfect accessory. The support stand is weak and doesn’t hold the weight of the figure which is why it doesn’t get a 5/5. I highly recommend this figure, diorama or not because it’s the coolest looking ghost figure outside of Slimer....[See More]
