DeaditorIt’s better articulation wise than the two towers version but is essentially the same figure. With the two towers figure pressing the button on his back would raise the staff or sword in his right hand but that meant sacrificing articulation in the arm. With this one they keep that action feature but the articulation is improved on the arm allowing it to bend. Again like with the pelenor fields aragorn is prefer a serious face with a stern look or passive rather than this shouting one. The staff and glamdring are fine but the sheath is grey and should be white, not sure why they can’t ever get this right. The cloth robe poncho is a nice touch making it less cumbersome than the plastic cloak. Overall it’s a pretty good figure but the riding Gandalf is still the best version....[

DeaditorI have mixed feelings about this figure even when I was younger I felt that the head is so wrong. That shouting head is appropriate I suppose but a passive head is always better on our heroes. The cloak is anoying being held on by two pegs and weighing the figure down, but the detail is there. He’s well articulated and looks decent I just think the head ruins it a little and cloth robes would be better like the rider version. One last note is that the robes are painted dark blue but on screen it’s clearly black. This is an issue that’s always continuing as they do it on the Lego version as well. I believe in a certain light it might appear bluish but it’s wupposed to be black so unfortunately he’s the wrong colour. It’s an above average figure but needs work to get right....[

Eomer (Ceromonial Armor)Lord of the Rings - Return of the King (Toy Biz) - Series 1

DeaditorThis Eomer is much better than the previous one. The likeness actually looks like Karl Urban and the details are a bit better as well as the scale. It’s a shame that a new figure wasn’t released of him in his traditional armour because obviously he doesn’t wear this ceremonial version to war. Again he has that swivel attack where you turn his body to one side and he slashed back. This means the arm articulation isn’t affected but the torso is bound to be in one position if posed. Other than that he’s well articulated and comes with his sword and it’s a decent figure....[

Super Poseable Gollum (with Climbing Action)Lord of the Rings - Return of the King (Toy Biz) - Series 2

DeaditorIt’s good and worth getting, it just needs something else specifically an interchangeable head. This smeagol figure is super articulated and therefore a bit flimsy and the loincloth from the rubber Gollum’s looks better, which sounds odd but you want skin to look different from clothing for more realism. It’s a shame this figures head was a smeagol expression innocent and goofy looking and not a Gollum snarling face or better yet as I said why not include an interchangeable head. Perhaps it was early days and by 2003 interchangeable heads on smaller figures were unheard of or just done as masks or rarely but this figure needed it for the duality. Moving onto the baseplate/wall: it’s a nice background I just wish they made the back metal instead of making Gollum climb using the ugly...[

Bilbo (Prologue)Lord of the Rings - Return of the King (Toy Biz) - Series 3

DeaditorOther than having very basic articulation as most Bilbo figures do from this series, I’m glad we got this figure. He has a typical slashing attack and comes with a decent sting sword and the ring moulded onto his hand. The likeness is decent and it’s just cool to have something like this. Peter Jackson during his commentary for the first Hobbit was asked by Phillipa Boyens if he intended to put Martin Freeman’s scene in the prologue over the original scene and he said he wouldn’t as it still works and I totally agree, otherwise you end up with Hayden Christensen at the Ewok Village like Return of the Jedi which is silly and unessesary as that’s not how Luke remembers him or would recognise him. So yeah thank you directors like PJ having confidence in the viewer....[

Eowyn (Armor)Lord of the Rings - Return of the King (Toy Biz) - Series 2

DeaditorI owe a lot to this figure as a customiser for the hobbit Dwarves, but it is also just a decent figure. She’s highly detailed has a sword a removable helm and the spear Eomer tosses at the mumak rider for some reason. My only complaints about her is the vinyl skirt and cloak which are bulky and have a sometimes sticky gloss, her eyes are always painted off looking sideways so a headswap with the coronation Eowyn is something I’d recommend and lastly no shield! I know she just picks it up but still it’s iconic in design. Overall think this is a nigh on perfection figure with some minor issues that can be remedied....[

Uruk-Hai (Crossbow)Lord of the Rings - Return of the King (Toy Biz) - Series 1

DeaditorThe tallest Uruk for some reason, hence why I've turned two of them into just Uruk soldiers by giving them the battle cry Uruk-hai helmets. There’s decent articulation not perfect and he holds his crossbow well, though his bolt pouch is too big and they tend to fall out unless you have multiple and pack them in. I don’t have too much to say in this figure, he’s the first Uruk figure I ever got and you can get him to hold a weapon, which looks better as he’s really nicely detailed and so much taller than he needs to be....[

DeaditorThis figure is a testament to ToyBiz’s dedication. This figure is well articulated, nicely detailed and has a removable helmet and sword. It’s nice when we get a figure of every iteration of a character essentially and this one furthers that evidence. Toybiz you were way ahead of your time and are missed greatly....[

Berserker Uruk-Hai & Frodo (UK)Lord of the Rings - Return of the King (Toy Biz) - International Exclusives

DeaditorOk we need some answers. Frodo in Rohan armour? You know that place he never went to in the films and the figure is the same as a basic fellowship Frodo. I’m not sure what went on in the printing office that day but it makes no sense. What you get is a beserker Uruk which I am a fan of and a Frodo. I believe I literally got this set for another beserker but yeah weird about Frodo. There’s nothing to say about this two pack other than that glaring mistake, both fires are fine and I’ve already talked about the beserker. The basic Frodo has limited articulation with a swivel head, swivel hingend shoulders, swivel wrists semi movable legs forward ways, swivel shins and hinged ancles, he has an action feature where you squeeze his legs and he raises his sword. This is a weathertop Frodo as he...[
