Transformers - Universe 2008 Reviews
Unicron (Armada Series)
Transformers - Universe 2008 (Hasbro) - Exclusives
Rated 4.50 stars by Collector1
Originally released as part of the Armada series, Unicron is the first Planet-former and the first representation of the Great Devourer in toy form. Rereleased as a Toys R Us exclusive, he does not disappoint. Eighteen inches tall in robot mode, Unicron is the second largest Transformer ever made, baring the Fortress Maximus mold. 28 Minicon powerlink ports are available for use in his Planet mode and 31 in robot mode not counting the three storage ports hidden in his shins and translucent stomach! Each hand is fully articulated and the right hand made of translucent plastic to allow an LED to light it up when the hand is pushed down. A button on his head can be pressed to make his eyes flash. Only three gimmick that uses Minicons is on his back in robot mode. Attaching a Minicon to the...[See More]

the only complaint i have with the unicron mold is he has no back end. I''d have rather they''d remade him like Primus where he is a complete planet.

Wait, what do you mean by "no back end"? Do you mean the flat part made up of his legs?

yeah. personally i want a unicron that is totally planet shaped like Primus in the cybertron series so he looks movie accurate. Guess i could start sculpting one as a kit for people lol.
Cyclonus with Nightstick (G1 Series)
Transformers - Universe 2008 (Hasbro) - Deluxe Class
Rated 4.50 stars by Collector1
After the non-airbrushed photo's of Cyclonus were released, I didn't intend to get him, turned of by his duller color and oddly two-toned legs but I broke down, deciding if I had Galvatron, I might as well get Cyclonus to go along with him. Can't have Mr. Burns without Mr. Smithers, right? I was supprised at the over all quality for Cyclonus. The two-tone legs are still annoying, but just barely noticable and I wish he had just a little brighter color scheme but he is still a great toy. The design is spectacular and I've fallen in love with his forarms which look like big puffy sleeves which I think is hilarious. Suprisingly, his bunny-ears aren't made of super soft plastic, just semi-flexable. He has a good range of motion and good balance, so he won't fall over too much. The Spaceship...[See More]
Autobot Hound with Ravage (G1 Series)
Transformers - Universe 2008 (Hasbro) - Deluxe Class
Rated 5.00 stars by Collector1
At first, I was very unsure if I was going to purchase Hound when he was announced. Then Hasbro decided to punch me in the stomach and forced my hand by including a new Ravage toy with Hound. Oh, you are the tricky ones Hasbro. First, we'll start with Hound. Hound transforms from a stubby, big footed robot into an Army Jeep. The transformation is simple, but with enough of a challange to it so it doesn't get boring. The Holo-Gram gun can be mounted on the back of ether chair in vehicle mode and holds pretty tight. The arms remind me some of the Starscream mold only retooled some. Maybe a caqouincidence, maybe not. The grill pops off easily so don't worry too much about it breaking. The Holo-Gram gun can be mounted on either shoulder, but it doesn't hold very well. Some modification to...[See More]
Starscream (G1 Series)
Transformers - Universe 2008 (Hasbro) - Deluxe Class
Rated 2.00 stars by Collector1
Does Starscream really need an introduction? Since the 1980's, Starscream has been plotting and planning his over throw of Megatron. Which usually comes down to shooting him in the back and declaring himself leader before he's smacked upside the head by a fusion cannon blast for being stupid. This is only the second Starscream released in this particular mold, originally made for the Classics toyline and redecoed and retooled countless times into Skywarp, Thundercracker, Dirge, Ramjet, and Acid Storm. By now, the mold is offically cheese and needs to be over hauled by Hasbro if they want to keep using it. The only reason I got this was because I didn't have the original Classics version. However, this version has a far more cartoon accurate paint job, so I guess it has some advantages....[See More]
Cheetor (Beast Wars Series)
Transformers - Universe 2008 (Hasbro) - Deluxe Class
Rated 3.50 stars by Collector1
Having waited with girlish glee at the prospect of a new Cheetor toy, I was most exstatic over having finally found him in stock at my own personal backwater Wal*Mart. I snatched him up along with the rerelease of Starscream, and the new Hound and Animated Blurr figures and was only moderatly dissapointed with Cheetor. Originally, Cheetor's beast mode was an immobile brick with a disgustingly placed water cannon. This newer update is a shockingly accurate portrail or a Cheeta with a bulky upper body and a very slim, borderline anorexic lower half. While it has far more articulation that the original (I.e. can move), the hind legs are a little restricted in over all movement, but still loaded with joints. A neat homage to the odd fact that the original Cheetor came in two eye colors (green...[See More]
25th Anniversary Optimus Prime Pack (G1 Series)
Transformers - Universe 2008 (Hasbro) - Stand Alone
Rated 5.00 stars by Collector1
I had been hoping to find the next wave of Deluxe class Universe figures on my weekly trip to Wal Mart, but was disapointed to find only mostly barren shelves for the Universe line with only Galvatrons and Sideswipes left. Then, all alone at the very end of the isle was this. The 25th Anniversary rerelease of Optimus Prime. I pooped myself. For the small price of my soul and unborn child, I picked him up. This does not only include Optimus Prime, but a DVD containg the first three episodes of the original 1984 animated series, three original desktop wallpapers and never before seen Megatron and Optimus Prime character art, a reprint of the first issue of the original four part Transformers Comic, a reprint of his transformation instructions (with words!) a sticker sheet to applie to the...[See More]
Silverstreak (Classics Series)
Transformers - Universe 2008 (Hasbro) - Deluxe Class
Rated 4.00 stars by Collector1
Wha-hoo! This marks my first review on my new computer so I figure I should make this one about my equally sexy silver and black Nissan pal, Silverstreak! Silverstreak is a redeco of the Prowl from the same line except for the lights on top of the roof removed. I was sceptical at first about buying Silverstreak, but the paint job won me over. Instead of dull silver plastic, Silverstreak is actually painted silver, giving him a much nicer and shinier finish. The over all body is very accurate to the original toy but slimmer and more articulation. You will encounter some problems in transformation that detracts from this otherwise grade-A 'bot. During transformation, the doors have tendancy to pop off. Repeatedly. So, it is just easier to just remove them all together and add them back on...[See More]
Powerglide (Classics Series)
Transformers - Universe 2008 (Hasbro) - Ultra Class
Rated 4.50 stars by fallen
The original Autobot dare devil, Powerglide, gets his second toy after over twenty-four years of neglect. Originally a Minibot, Universe Powerglide has been massivly upscaled into a huge Ultra Class Transformer with enough sound and light effects to make the thrid biggest egomaniac Autobot proud. Like the original Minibot, Powerglide turns into an A-10 Thunderbolt with a modified nose cone to avoid having to pay royalties. The color scheme is actually reversed from the original G1 figure from red with white highlights to a predominatly white body with red trimmings on the wings and jet engines and his robot modes wrists and ankles, but the head remains solid red with a silver faceplate. The cockpit, instead of just being some molded translucent orange plastic, actually has a...[See More]
