Michelangelo Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) (Super7)Man, the first month of 2022 isn’t over yet and I already got four new Super7 TMNT figures? That’s definitely a sign of addiction. I mentioned in my April review that I was waiting on two more to arrive from BBTS, and they arrived not too long after. And then I happened to find another figure at the same place I got April. Time to review one of my latest additions, Michelangelo, the party loving turtle. The packaging is same as the rest of S7’s ultimates, so no point in talking about the same thing, but the sculpt is also mostly reuse as well, with the only differences being the head and belt. Michelangelo has two different head options, just like the previous two turtles, with a classic and modern portrait. However, I don’t really like the modern head. While it’s a happy expression suitable given his personality, it just looks creepy. Don’t get me wrong, they did a great job with it, but I’m just not a fan. The body is recycled, as I mentioned already, but why not? All the turtles looked the same aside from their colors in earlier material, and speaking of color, this figure has a really nice shade of green that just appeals to me for some reason. The paint is mostly clean, aside from some bleed (mainly around the mask), and the figure itself stands about 6” tall, same height as his brothers. Same turtle body, same turtle articulation. Mikey has a ball-jointed head and waist, swivel/hinge joints at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles, and swivel biceps and thighs. There’s a bit of tightness to the joints, but not so much that it hinders anything, and everything holds their pose well. The balance on him is great as well, adjust him good enough and he can stand on one leg. Like Raph and Leo, his wrists hinge up and down, but there is an extra pair of gripping hands that hinge in and out. As for accessories, what’s here is mostly reuse, but there are some new accessories for this guy as well. There’s the modern head I mentioned already, and they swap easily. Four different pairs of hands are included, with two pairs of gripping hands, with different ranges of motion, a pair of fists, and a pair of open hands. They’re a bit trickier to swap out than usual, but no major issues with them. As for weapons, Mikey has not one, but two pairs of nunchucks. One with metal chains, and another that’s all plastic. The plastic ones are good for dynamic poses with them, and you can get a bit of bend out of them as well. The throwing stars, kama, and fist daggers are reused, but another new weapon here is his grappling shell. It’s lifted straight from the original cartoon, and it looks great, but I wish the string was thicker. And instead of a slice of pizza, we have a pizza box with a single slice in it. Finally, there’s an unpainted weapons rack, a common accessory among this line. S7 continues to top themselves with each wave of these figures, and I consider Michelangelo more fun than Leonardo (but not as much as Raphael). While I’m not super big into the extra head here, everything is still nice, and these are still proving to be great figures. I’m really excited for the surfer Mikey in wave six coming out later this year, especially with all the other promising figures we’ll be getting. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
