Super Bebop and Mighty Rocksteady Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca)"Stomp toitles! Stomp toitles!" Looks like we've gotten the fourth Bebop and Rocksteady figures by NECA, technically. These aren't Bebop and Rocksteady, but rather their robotic counterparts, Mighty Bebop and Super Rocksteady, both of whom come from a season 3 episode where Shredder and Krang make mechanical clones of their dim-witted henchmen to carry out their latest evil task. These are dropping as part of Target's Haulathon event, but I'd get looking now, these are going faster than you think. The packaging follows the same cues as the rest of the line, but it's worth noting two things. One is that there are no plastic ties holding in the accessories, but there's still a couple to deal with on the figures themselves. The other thing is that they got the names wrong, calling them "Super Bebop" and "Mighty Rocksteady" instead. Sheesh NECA, you call yourselves fans? What they did get right are the characters' appearances. Almost every little detail they had in the show are replicated just fine in plastic, and the blocky appearances of the heads match up with the toon's usual tech style. The jacket and shoulder guns on Bebop are done in a softer plastic to prevent them from restricting articulation, which is a nice touch. Paint is pretty clean all around, though there are a few fuzzy areas when it comes to the black lines, and Bebop's torso doesn't have any shading on it. Bebop stands around 6 7/8", while Rocksteady is a little smaller at 6 1/2". The articulation on these figures is very similar to the organic B&R, with both having a ball-jointed head and chest, swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, and ankles, swivel biceps, waist, and thighs, double-hinged elbows and knees, ball-socket hips, and hinged jaws. There's a bit of tightness to the joints, especially the wrists like usual, and the chests are restricted a bit, but they still move well. Having ball-socket hips instead of ratcheting swivel/hinge ones like other B&R figures have is a nice improvement, and I hope the initial figures can get re-released with them. There isn't a whole ton of accessories here, but what we got is good enough. Both figures have three pairs of hands: closed, gripping, and open. They swap easily, the but the gun on Rocksteady's left forearm can get in the way. Two different firearms are included here, one having a weird drill-like tip, and the other looking more like a standard machine gun. In case the bots need to get physical, a parking meter is included, and it has some nicely-textured concrete at the bottom. The last two accessories, a time bomb and a weird device, don't come from the same episode as these two, but they're nice extras. I'm surprised we didn't get the Mesmerizer here, since it was a key part of these two's sole episode. This is a nice unexpected release for the line, and while there were some things that could have been ironed out, this is still a solid release overall. The fact that NECA's going this deep with the line rather than stopping at the main characters is a great thing, and we certainly got a full plate for this year. 4/09/2022 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
