Banzai-Tron Transformers (Super7) (Super7)It’s been a while since I got my first Super7 Transformers Ultimate, which was Optimus Prime, and now it’s time to go from the face of the franchise to a lesser-known character: Banzai-Tron from the Action Masters line, which I believe was the first “non-transforming” Transformers line. Look at us coming full circle with both these Ultimates and Hasbro’s R.E.D. figures, except the deep-cut lovers at Super7 are more likely to do this guy. The packaging is much like Prime’s, bigger than usual, but with some nice graphics. Illustration of the character on the slipcover, and stats on the back of the main box. They also used the Action Masters version of the TF logo, which is a nice touch. There’s two plastic trays being held together with tape, and a single twist tie holding in the figure, all pretty easy to remove. These boxes may take up space, but you can’t deny S7 knows how to make them collector friendly. Banzai’s appearance is very similar to the original figure, but with a couple changes. For starters, his shoulder armor has taller tips, and he has new hips in the form of round balls. We still got those purple thighs, though. His mouthplate is also changed up a bit, but it’s a really minor difference. So yeah, not an exact replica of the old figure. Still looks great, though. The colors are also changed a bit. The greens and purples are a lighter shade, his mouthplate is orange instead of red, and the cords on his shoulders are painted green now. The paint is nice and clean, and the Decepticon medal on his chest is a shinier finish, but I wish the colors were bolder. A more neon look to him would’ve been great. Banzai-Tron stands 7 ¼” from his feet to the very tip of his head. The articulation on the figure is a lot like Optimus Prime’s, but with some differences. Banzai-Tron has a ball-jointed head with a good range of motion, and it pops off easily as well. Not sure why since there’s nothing to swap it with. He also has swivel/hinge joints at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles, swivels at the biceps, waist, and thighs, and an ab crunch. The sculpts of the shoulders prevents them from going all the way out, and it can hinder the elbow joints a bit, but they can tilt 90 degrees unlike the Autobot leader. The ankles are better as well, with plenty of tilt and rocker motion. He also has nice balance and tight joints, so you can pose him kicking if you wish. In spite of a high price, there isn’t a lot of accessories here. Banzai-Tron has six different hands: a pair of fists, a pair of gripping hands, an open right, and a “ninja” left. They swap easily, and the grips each have a different type of joint – up-and-down for the right, and in-and-out for the left. He also has a Photon Neutralizer (yes, I actually looked it up), and his little partner Razor-Sharp. The gimmick with the original figure was that Razor could be turned into a firearm, but sadly this one is nothing more than a solid hunk of plastic. You can still attach the Neutralizer to him, though, but what use would that be? Banzai-Tron is an interesting choice for a figure, especially for the first wave of figures, but I like how Super7 is mixing things up with the character selection. He’s not a perfect figure, but still unique enough to be worth adding to your collection. But in all seriousness, with the $55 price, they could’ve at least given us a transforming Razor-Sharp. -8/9/22 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
