South Park (Season 1) Tiny TV Classics (Basic Fun)We’ve gotten a lot of little plastic TVs to go with our action figures over the years, but have you ever asked yourself “what if there was a toy TV that could actually play video?” Basic Fun, makers of all kinds of toys, has answered that question with their “Tiny TV Classics” line. It’s been going on since last year, and has covered a good amount of shows and movies. The one I’m taking a look at is for South Park, meaning that this isn’t one you should give to the little ones. The packaging has specific designs for each TV, with this one being peppered with a few characters from the show. There’s even a “try me” feature for it, just push the button on the side of the box and you’ll see how it works. The TV and remote (the latter which I’ll talk about below) are kept safe with two plastic trays held together by tape, so it’s not too hard to get everything out. The backdrop on the inside, which is of Cartman’s living room, is removable, so you can have a nice display for it. The TV model here is the “classic” one, meant to represent the 90’s. It’s a nice replication of the CRT TVs that were a hit back then (and are still loved nowadays), and while there’s a not a lot of color to it – being solid gray – it still looks nice. Said TV sits on a stand that’s permanently fused to it, and I wish you could detach it so you can place the TV on somewhere different. Still, it’s not bad. The TV including stand scales 2 ½” in length, 1 5/8” in width, and 2 5/8” in height. A bit smaller than I would like it to be, but it should still go well with your ReActions or Marvel Legends. Now let’s talk about the video feature. Push the power button on the side, and the TV will present the show’s intro followed by a series of clips, with 11 “channels” in total (it’s actually 12 clips, with two in one channel). The picture and sound quality is surprisingly good, showing that we’ve come a long way from things like Gameboy Advance Video and VideoNow. Also, after some time of inactivity, the TV will shut off on its own, which is a good power-saving measure. I mentioned earlier that a remote was included, and it’s a functional one at that. You can use it to turn off the TV (but not on for some reason), along with channel skip buttons to go to a specific scene, and volume control. While the TV itself also has channel and volume control, the remote has something it doesn’t: a pause button, so you can stop it at a specific moment if you want to. I’m the kind of guy who likes to get little things to go along with my action figures, such as Mini Brands (though I will admit that I don’t get those often), and having a functional TV is great. This one only covers South Park’s first season, so who knows if they’ll do more from the show. The only problem with this line is that it’s Walmart-exclusive, and you won’t have much luck trying to find them in store, but thankfully, they’re easily available online. - 8/10/22 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
