Someone's in the Kitchen with DNA (Troy McClure) (Simpsons (Super7)) Review
Someone's in the Kitchen with DNA (Troy McClure)
Simpsons (Super7) (Super7)"Hi, I'm Troy McClure. You may remember me from such toy lines as World of Springfield, and… wait, that's it?"

The first wave of Super7's Simpsons Ultimates is showing up in the States any day time, and I can't wait. Until they drop, however, Super7 in the meantime put out some ReAction figures as an appetizer. They kicked it off with a wave of McBain figures, and now Troy McClure is getting the treatment, with three figures based off his various roles in-show. This particular variant comes from "Someone's in the Kitchen with DNA," which itself originates from season 9's "Lisa the Simpson."

ReAction card art ranges from "mildly attractive" to "absolutely stunning," and this one belongs in the former category. It has specific art depicting Troy in the various outfits he wears in this line, and serves as a nice cross-sell on both the front and back. It's nothing too special, but I think it does the job.

In the "DNA" video, Troy wore a radiation suit, and that look is carried over here. Despite being produced in a 3 3/4" scale, Troy actually comes up to nearly 4" because of his hair. Said hair is something that is difficult to translate to 3D, but they managed to do so here, and it looks best if you turn him to the right. Other than that, Troy's design is pretty easy to convert to figure form because of how simple it is. The paint is pretty decent, with clean edges. The glossiness of the head is somewhat off-putting, though. As a ReAction figure, Troy gets only five points of articulation: neck, shoulders, and hips. It's very basic articulation, and I doubt you'll have Troy do anything more than just stand around.

Troy gets two accessories, the first of which is a simple radiation helmet. It fits securely over his head, but his nose and mouth make it hard to put on and off. The second accessory is a whole another figure, and it's Billy, the little boy from the video. Billy is smaller than Troy, at 2 1/4" tall, but he still looks very accurate to how he appeared on-screen. The paint on him is slightly better than Troy, thanks to the head and hair actually being painted rather than colored plastic, but there is some fuzziness to the socks, along with a green mark on the right hand. Billy moves the same with neck, shoulders, and hips, but his hips don't move independent of each, instead being a solid piece like an Imaginext figure. I'm not sure if this was intentional, but given his small size, it was the only way they could make the T-crotch work. His legs are somewhat crooked, though, making it hard for him to stand.

I'll admit, I rarely buy ReAction figures, since there's not much going for them that justifies a $20 price point, but the Troy McClure line may be some of the few that are worth it. They look really good, and throwing a second figure in there helps justify the value. I doubt the ReAction will ever wow me this much again, but I wouldn't mind seeing them try.
