Robot Itchy Simpsons (Super7) (Super7)Super7 sure has given us a pretty varied line-up for their Simpsons Ultimates so far. We're getting everything from B-listers to one-shots, and there's still no sign of Marge or Lisa in any form. Some many not like it, but I'm more than happy to get everyone, like this mechanical version of the murderous mouse Itchy. The most the robot mascot looks like Itchy is in the head, and the sculptor (whoever that/they is) did a good job translating it into plastic. The bot has a blank stare, as to be expected out of theme park mascots, artificial or costumed. In the show, the three "hairs" on its head tended to be drawn from the side, but here, since they're doing the character in three dimensions, the hairs are right in the middle of the forehead. A second head is included, and at first, it looks to be the same, but its scalp can be removed, revealing the circuitry underneath. It would've been nice if the alternate head had "powered off" black pupils, just to make it look more unique. The torso of the robot is big and blocky, and it's also hollow plastic instead of solid. While that sounds cheaply done for a $55 figure, it works here to keep the thin legs from having to hold up too much weight. He's not a little rodent, as robot Itchy stands a bit under 7" at the head, but the ears bring him up to 7 1/2". The paint is nice, with clean lines almost everywhere and shiny grey colors on the teeth and chest buttons. It would've been nice if the grey on the rest of the body, and not just the head, was painted on. Because of its design, robot Itchy moves a little differently from your everyday Ultimate, but he moves in about all the usual areas. The head is a ball-socket joint, but the ball is mounted on a hinge, allowing it to look up pretty well. The head has barely any tilt on the ball, but the neck has a swivel where it meets the body, so you can turn it and have the head tilt side to side. The arms get swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, and wrists, and the wrist joints are on the forearms rather than the hands, with a vertical hinge rather than lateral. The legs are simple, with T-crotch hips and hinged knees and ankles, but it's how they're supposed to move. Other than all that, there's a swivel waist and ball-socket tail. The hinges for the head and wrists were stuck, likely due to paint, so I needed hot water to get them moving. Moving onto accessories, there is the alternate head with removable scalp I mentioned. Just to be safe, I heated it up before popping it onto the joint, mainly because I've seen this ball/hinge joint break on other figures like Robin Hood and Goldar, and I didn't want to risk anything. The open hands can be swapped out for gripping ones, and they fit on nice and tight. There's some deadly weaponry included, and while it can't hold the chainsaw or Tommy gun well, the mallet and ax fit in nicely. For when Itchy's not in a killing mood, he gets a hanging drum and two drumsticks. The drum can weigh him down a bit, so you'll need to work the legs a bit to get him balanced. It's weird that Super7 is doing a robot Itchy before the regular version, but I'm here for the wild mix of characters. He goes well together with the robot Scratchy (who I'll cover as soon as I get my hands on him), and both make for good army builders if you can get them on sale. As far as I know, no figures of this specific character exist, so it's nice to know Super7 is the first to do so. - 2/18/23 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
