Poochie (Simpsons (Super7)) Review
Poochie
Simpsons (Super7) (Super7)Poochie is a rather interesting Simpsons character. In his debut episode, "The Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie Show," he was meant to be a character that nobody in the show liked, but fans of the show consider him one of the most memorable one-shots, enough to let make a few cameos here and there. It also led to Super7 incorporating the character into their Ultimates line, his first figure since the Kidrobot vinyl.

The concept of Poochie's character in-universe was that he was supposed to be a cool dog everyone would love. That failed, but he was designed to look "cool." He's got a backwards cap, sunglasses, and a goatee (since when was that last thing cool?), all on an orange dog with floppy ears and a long snout. The transition of his likeness from 2D to 3D was handled as well, as he looks spot-on, and the head is fully painted. Granted, there's some bleeding and marks, and there is also some glue residue on the hat of mine for some reason, but it's good work overall. He gets two other heads, one grinning and the other with an open mouth. The grinning head is the best of the three, and the open mouth head is fine, but there's an obvious seam line around the lower jaw.

Poochie is the smallest figure of the first wave at 5 1/2" tall, which makes sense as he's supposed to be a cartoon dog. Rather than give him the flannel shirt he's wearing on the box illustrations, he's wearing the leather jacket he had in his debut short, "The Beagle Has Landed." The jacket looks great, with clean, metallic paint for the zippers and buttons, and the neon green sneakers are nice as well. The same can't be said for his ripped pants, which have a lot of bleed and slop around the cuffs. The fanny pack around his waist is a separate piece, and it can be slipped off with ease. The hands don't seem to be painted, but the color of the plastic blends well with the painted heads and tail. The neck on Poochie seems to be a little longer than it should be, but I imagine the articulation choices are what led to that.

Speaking of which, the articulation on Poochie is a little different from your standard Ultimate, but he moves in all the areas one usually would, just with a few limitations. He gets a barbell head aided by a ball-joint at the base of the neck, allowing him to look around quite a bit. The arms have swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, and wrists, and they move fine, but the sculpt hinders their movement a bit. The tail is a ball-joint and the waist seems to be one as well, but it really can't do anything move than swivel a bit. There are ball-jointed hips and ankles, which also have limited movement, but the swivel/hinge knees work great. Overall, his movement is hindered by the design, but you can achieve some decent poses.

Poochie is a little lighter on extras than the others, but what he has works with the character. There are three different heads as I already mentioned, and I'd recommend heating up the plastic on them to make swapping easier. He also has four sets of hands - closed, gripping, relaxed, and peace sign - and they swap with ease, but the sleeve cuffs get in the way a bit. For radical fun, he comes with a surfboard, a skateboard, and a guitar. The guitar looks great, and Poochie can hold it, though the movement limitations mean he can't do too much with it. The skateboard is a little smaller than I think it should be, but the rolling wheels are a nice touch, and there's a foot peg to keep the pooch on it. Lastly, there's a fanny pack, which is really supposed to be part of the sculpt, but since it can be removed, I'm counting it as an accessory.

Poochie is a good figure, but not as good as the rest of the wave, mainly due to the restricted articulation. If you can work around that issue, you'll find he's pretty fun to play around with, and I'm still pretty satisfied with him. The first wave overall was great, and I'm looking forward to the next few waves coming out next year.
